    GPS backup

If my best guess turns out to be correct, it was spending too much time looking out the window that got them in trouble in OKC and TPA.

So is RNP 0.10 capability and GLS could be.

    GPS backup

You are only looking at this from a GA perspective. The FAA looks at it from a national airspace system perspective and most of the users of the NAS have a backup to GPS--DME/DME/IRU. The minimum VOR network is designed to support DME/DME/IRU.

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

Lots of things are possible. At this point, I'm trying to think of what is most probable. I would be surprised if there was a significant error in the altimeter setting. They were roughly 1,300' low. That's a big altimeter setting error, ~1.30". The correct way is to use your VNAV path...

Emergency battery pack for home refrigerator?

I have an Anker C1000. It's small, and light enough to carry relatively easily. 1056Wh capacity with a 2400W peak and 1800W nominal load capacity. I ran my large, five-door fridge for several hours on it without any problem and estimate that it would run the fridge for a bit over 12 hours...

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

And what? That is a threat. They would not have been familiar with the sight picture for that runway even though were likely very familiar with TPA. That can lead to errors. As dmspilot said, that's not how we fly approaches. We follow the VNAV path down to visual conditions or a missed...

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

It's flown in LNAV and VNAV. My avatar shows the display. It would require ignoring the vertical path indicator once the "runway" was in sight. Runway 10/28 is rarely used by transport jets. This may have been their first time attempting to land on 10.

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

Short of auto-lands, all instrument approaches end in a visual segment. That's where mistakes can be made.

Callouts, in addition to EGPWS, would have been; "2,500" "Approaching Minimums" (526' Baro) "Minimums" (426' Baro) and if they continued to touchdown; "50", "40", "30", "20", "10".

    Tesla Pickup Unveil

Sure. It depends entirely on how many miles you tend to drive each day. 12,000 mi/yr is less than 33 miles per day. That can easily be handled with Level 1 charging. Those who drive significantly more will definitely need Level 2 at home to avoid inconvenient charging stops. I have the...

    Tesla Pickup Unveil

It's a very big battery. If he plugs it in whenever it is home, it shouldn't be too bad. Most people aren't going to use anywhere near its capacity on a daily basis.

    Tesla Pickup Unveil

Nice. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts as you get to know your new truck. I haven't seen much online content on it yet. What I have seen is that it wins all the real-world towing tests. Sounds like the best choice for someone who wants to do some towing with their EV truck. As to...

    Boeing 777 Tail Strike "Record"?

Tail strikes are not that uncommon--just not as bad as this one. The longer you stretch a fuselage, the more susceptible the airplane is to a tail strike. The airplanes that are long enough to make tail strikes a threat have, often, retractable tail skids that cycle up/down with the landing...

Logging cross country +50NM between Depart Dest Airports FLYING Non Direct Route

That is an appeal to authority fallacy. I have more hours than you do, both airline and GA, and I disagree with many of your conclusions. Do you find my argument convincing? No? That's why it's a fallacy.

    Runup area to runway priority?

The tower controller will deal with it. If necessary, he'll move the Cherokee out of your way.

    Tesla Pickup Unveil

On a Tesla, the one-pedal braking is a nice, conservative, comfortable deceleration. With more spirited driving the brake pedal would be used regularly. You also have to use the brake pedal when putting the car in gear and putting it back into Park, so you won't forget where it is.

    Boeing’s on a streak...

I don't know the causes of any on the recent wheel PDA events. The ones that I do know the causes of were due to bearing failures which are more likely a result of a manufacturing or material defect.

    Working on CFI - Advice?

That's a good one. You're teaching them what they need to know to meet their goals, not trying to impress them with the depth of your knowledge. Find out what you student's goals are in aviation and what their interests are in life. Provide more detail, than strictly required, in those areas...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

Why do you think it's a maintenance issue? Parts break. This is at least the fifth wheel departing incident this year. Here are a few from Google, stolen from another forum, since 2020. One in Jan 2020 but the pay wall prevents me from seeing any details. An Air Canada A319 lost a wheel at...
