New Garmin GTR205/GNC215 COM and NAVCOM radios

My brain agrees with you, but my heart remembers a decent navcom being a grand or so, and the wallet has not yet adjusted. :/ You should hear my bleatings in response to some avionics quotes I'm gathering now. I was unprepared.

New Garmin GTR205/GNC215 COM and NAVCOM radios

I assume one pokes the tuning knob IN to switch between COM and NAV tuning modes? Funny how sticky the GNS430/530 buttonology is. :) $5300 for a navcom is naynays to me.

Thinking about an EV (nvm, bought one)

I'll be dead before all of my anti-environment sins pile up to smite me. I first drove an EV because Ungle Sugar kicked me $2,500 towards one. Then he kicked me $7,500 towards my second and third EVs. So my reasons are many -- 17,500 reasons in fact. I respond to incentives like any other...

    How to buy a plane

With the caveat that 3/4 of the ads are scam ads and to never ever ever ever send a deposit to hold/buy any of them (or anything but an in-person transaction for anything off of FB ever) -- yes. :)

Mark Baker to step down at AOPA

I do miss the red board a smidge. Why on earth did they get rid of that? It had to cost them peanuts. Like 1/10,000th of a Baker per year. Plus I could at least assume participants were not only pilots, but cared enough about GA to foot the $50 membership fee to enable their yelling past one...

using available weather data to determine "VFR on top" possibilities

Do people use VFR-on-top[-the-IFR-clearance] while enroute? I've only ever used it to get on top and I'm always pressed for an "advise cancellation [of IFR, while flying the VFR-on-top-while-IFR clearance instructions using my VFR navigational equipment] when on top"

    How to buy a plane

You rock one of those, yeah? How's the useful load? Our 1-door super had 1100 or 1200# which was insane. My sundowner was 850 or so and I found it pretty marginal with the giant fuel tanks, so that has kept me from looking closer at the earlier 23s, and right out of the sports.

    How to buy a plane

You have to study the market to be able to act quickly and quasi-intelligently in the market. Frankly, you need to set aside a lot of due diligence and be willing to "sniff condition" in the moment, and be willing to accept the financial penalty of getting it wrong. Generally I'll buy at such a...

    Beating the Airlines

I wonder if typical planning window feeds into this somehow. I seldom am able to book over a week in advance, and frequently it's same/next day. I suffer the "I can't get anywhere for $500" problem too. Those are invariably the flights I compare with GA and end up shocked that GA wins again (at...

    Beating the Airlines

I think being able to sleep in a modern airliner's economy class seat is a superpower unto itself. Can you also sleep on rocks? on beds of nails? in Lurquilla, typical walmart shopper's armpit? :)

Is Dan Gryder the biggest asset to aviation on youtube?

It was large and swedish if that helps pique your curiousities.

How is the post about Dan Gryder not a personal attack???

Perhaps it was already deleted without the benefit of a 10 word explanation :D

[NA] Pay by the job or by the hour?

Next time mention that you maintain a crack team of ringers who could jump on such a task if time was genuinely of the essence and helpful to their cause. :D

using available weather data to determine "VFR on top" possibilities

I would rather renew and update my IR chops than learn arcana like Skew-T, and I think it would be a better use of your time OP. Flirting with clouds is fun until it isn't. I'd rather have some recency of IR skills somewhere in my toolbox, even if not a full IPC signoff. I use pireps more and...

    Beating the Airlines

I keep encountering trips where I beat the airlines -- something that should never happen since my missions are usually metro area to metro area and well-served by the airlines. Their price-jacking seems to be happening much faster than my aviation cost increases, which are still prodigious. I...

    RV 6 down concord.

Pretty sure I've been in the pattern with that dude at CCR. If it's the same RV I'm familiar with, EVERY landing was a zippy short approach. He seemed pretty good at them, although he got a generous amount of side-eye from me on the parallel as he darted about. Shame.

[NA] Pay by the job or by the hour?

Your example is an inexperienced C-suite/board at the fintech and they will be fleeced -- if not by you, by your replacement. Optimize the problem (like you are, from the sound of it) to maximize billing. If the fintech relies heavily on the TECH, they are doomed. Refuse any equity offers :)...

Tell me about life in Tucson and/or Reno

I had the same question. I am trying to understand the calculus that leaves Napa and ends up in either of those two places. But I wanted to wait until OP's questions got answered first before asking :) until then.
