Best location/school for accelerated training without a car?

KHHR in Los Angeles is across the street from the metro station, and has several active flying clubs. I've done a lot of "last mile" work from mass transit using an electric scooter, and they're a few hundred bucks for a good quality one. Easy to put 10 or 15 miles on one to connect any wayward...

Finally changing engine at 3500 SMOH

It didn't make sense to me either. The core I got was newer and fresher than the one I sent them in. And there was a 30 day grace to send them back the core, which was plenty of time for me to swap them, even at my lazy pace. Some value left on the table for sure there, presumably in exchange...

Finally changing engine at 3500 SMOH

Exchange and OH-yours are the same price at Western Skyways, no added premium. For your next OH decision. :)

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

claims on reddit are that the window seat was vacant. What are the actual odds of there being a vacant seat on an airline lately, much less a window?! I think I did a leg on this plane last month, and they were crowing about how new it was. Whoops!

    What doesn’t exist but should?

"Suitable" being somewhere around the ending of Braveheart I think? Also the administrator of said punishment should sell the convicted an auto warranty using an Indian accent spoken by someone who has never so much as sniffed a car in their life. Also I'd like spectator or pay-per-view access...

Looking to make my multi fun!

Yeah you won't. MEL initial is basically flying a constantly broken airplane all over the place. It's not remotely about landings :) First time you'll enjoy the benefits of a twin, namely, excess thrust and performance -- will be when you leave your checkride with your temp certificate in hand...

    Philistine. :)

    What exists but shouldn't?

because "TSA" is the best answer and it will trigger a discussion about why it exists in the first place, which will get the thread locked :D

    What doesn’t exist but should?

Based on the litany of jowl-flap and whingeing I read lately -- an insurance company that will write aircraft insurance for the geriatric set, and possibly, send them cards every year reminding them that they are ever so experienced, awesome, and totally not an increased risk, and that the other...

    C441 real world range

I thought this was one of the party tricks the Merlin could do with its enormous fuel tanks. I would have thought a 441 was close behind, but I see it's about 175 gallons shy in comparison.

Twin Comanche coasts to a stop in Kansas farm field

I can't think of anything special about a PA30 that would make it more prone to double loss of engine power. Ours had 6 fuel tanks, and each selector had 3 positions IIRC, so.. maybe that is 6 ways this owner could f-up fuel management? Still pretty impressive to have the sides burning so...

Long haul flying - what a PITA

I do cross-continent trips a few times a year. I just sit sideways and netflix. :) Beech seats mostly don't tear me up, even with 12-14 hour days in the saddle, although the newer 36 series can be a bit overstuffed and the legroom/headroom equation suffers for my 6'2 frame. I'll feel some back...

    N/A Tipping

It's weird -- the below-minimum-wage thing is no longer true in CA, yet the restaurant check tip suggestions have nudged upwards and start at 18% nowadays.

    KSMO / Vector stupidity

Easier to just call all 19,000 airport managers and ask I'd think. Most of those websites are terribad. :)

    N/A Tipping

I used to be super "Mr. Pink" on this subject, but I had a client give me an annual bonus last year. I do Corp-to-corp contracting, so it was literally a company tipping another company. I was actually puzzled by it for a long while. I interpreted it as a signal to raise my rates, so that's...

Oh, found it... garmin pilot has this low-rent version. Not nearly as cool. :/

    ...

^^ that. I use Google Sheets for my logbook now, which makes answering all of the random insufferable insurance total-of questions a snap. I once held the illusion that I would backfill to my paper logbook, but.. yeah that dream died about 500 hours ago. I have a small "demo logbook" now to...
