I don't understand. Here is an example that will happen later today: I am flying out to pick my daughter up from camp. I let the camp coordination center know that I have a couple of extra seats in back, and that if they have any parents who can't make it in to pick their kids, I'd be happy...

Considering all the money spent before and today - probably quite a few things (like a healthier retirement plan or, say, a nice vacation or ten). But in the end, this has always been a hobby and I have treated is as such, which means it replaced other discretionary spends.

I started out with the exact same set of questions... and realized that it would take a lot of spare cash to go there. Why a jet though? they are typically designed to make the passengers happy, not the pilot, and as others have pointed out, are insanely expensive to own/run for leisure...

I've done a single leg almost six hour long XC once (KCCR to KSAF), no auto pilot either. Never again. 4 hours is now my personal maximum. One stop should work well for this flight IMO.

Same here. None of us can justify owning one outright - we don't fly enough. But between the three of us, it makes perfect sense.

Picked Brown in the end. Great little airport and the tower controllers were super kind to me as I meandered all over the place in my anxiety over not busting the international border.

Jim, please don't misunderstand. I posted precisely because I am unfamiliar with the area and looking for advice from those who are, and have stated that repeatedly. I am just trying to put it all together for myself; maybe I'm taking the flight planning and "all available information" concept...
