    Is Tony Stewart a murderer??

What happened to personal accountability? Ward literally ran onto a track full of hot cars! Anyone who is saying "oh, Stewart should have known this could be bad, he's a pro driver"... I'm sorry, but what about "Ward should have known what could happen, he's a pro driver"? If you refuse...

"FAA Bans GA Ride Sharing Companies"

Ah. OK, that makes more sense. Honestly, I was having trouble breathing for a few moments there - it started looking like all I've been doing is violating these rules (because I absolutely love taking people flying with me so I do it all the time - I very rarely fly alone). Thank you.

"FAA Bans GA Ride Sharing Companies"

Well... if I don't care about *being* a commercial pilot in the sense that it will never be a source of income, but want to avoid getting into trouble because reading this thread seems to imply that even goodwill - goodwill! - is verboten, would this "cover" me? I mean, shoot, I am absolutely...

Out of curiosity... can a VFR pilot get a VFR only commercial certificate?

"FAA Bans GA Ride Sharing Companies"

Yeah, I totally missed that. I thought it was some sort of online bulletin board. Yeah, I have no intention of asking for anything nor know any of the other parents... I just let the camp know since they are driving my daughter down to the airport to meet with me that they are welcome to...

"FAA Bans GA Ride Sharing Companies"

I don't understand. Here is an example that will happen later today: I am flying out to pick my daughter up from camp. I let the camp coordination center know that I have a couple of extra seats in back, and that if they have any parents who can't make it in to pick their kids, I'd be happy...

Sacrifices you made to afford the time and money to fly?

Considering all the money spent before and today - probably quite a few things (like a healthier retirement plan or, say, a nice vacation or ten). But in the end, this has always been a hobby and I have treated is as such, which means it replaced other discretionary spends.

the road to my (your?) own LearJet

I started out with the exact same set of questions... and realized that it would take a lot of spare cash to go there. Why a jet though? they are typically designed to make the passengers happy, not the pilot, and as others have pointed out, are insanely expensive to own/run for leisure...

Tips for a very long XC (6-8 hours)?

I've done a single leg almost six hour long XC once (KCCR to KSAF), no auto pilot either. Never again. 4 hours is now my personal maximum. One stop should work well for this flight IMO.

    Sharing a plane - organized

Same here. None of us can justify owning one outright - we don't fly enough. But between the three of us, it makes perfect sense.

    San Diego airport?

Yeah, no issues. Got cleared through the Bravo but on a 150 from mission bay, which had me headed straight to Mexico. They only let me turn when I came out of the Bravo, which is both way too close to Mexico and at that point pretty close to Brown. Then Brown had me go "direct pogee" but after I...

    San Diego airport?

Countryair, I am SO rolling my eyes at you. If you don't understand the basic concept of availing oneself of all available information before a flight to an unfamiliar area, including reaching out via this wonderful forum, then you must be one of those "tough guys", ain't ya? Well, good on...

    San Diego airport?

Picked Brown in the end. Great little airport and the tower controllers were super kind to me as I meandered all over the place in my anxiety over not busting the international border.

    San Diego airport?

Data is from here: http://www.aviador.es/Statistics/Flight_Rules/ When I plug in the three airports and then pick August stats, I get highest IFR/LIFR percentages in SDM, second highest in MYF, and almost none in SAN.

    San Diego airport?

Jim, please don't misunderstand. I posted precisely because I am unfamiliar with the area and looking for advice from those who are, and have stated that repeatedly. I am just trying to put it all together for myself; maybe I'm taking the flight planning and "all available information" concept...
