    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

A man and his trainer are preparing for a Championship Wrestling Match. The trainer tells the man, "You're lean, you're strong, and you're skilled. If you give him all you've got, you can win this. But beware; whatever you do, don't let him get you in the twisted pretzel hold. No one has ever...

    Flying with low/flat strut

That brings a good point, if flying the plane in that condition you should consider lowering the pressure in that tire.

    Shutting down

Here's my process: Avionics master off, because that stuff is expensive. Alternator off (might make the first step redundant) to prevent any voltage spikes during shutdown, and excessive field current. Mag checks, sometimes. Mixture to idle cutoff. Battery off. On start-up, I always start with...

PA 28 Down in Kentucky, Fatalities

I'm normally of the opinion that most lawsuits generated by GA crashes are frivolous, but this one seems to be warranted: HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The family of an 18-year-old killed in an Ohio County plane crash have filed a lawsuit against ATP Flight Academy and Eagle Flight Academy, alleging...

    Flying with low/flat strut

A hard landing or a bump in the runway could send quite the shock into the spar without the strut cushioning it. Could it cause (or initiate) damage? I don't know, but I also don't want to find out.

    Low Voltage Alert Threshold

Alert for anything below 13V and above 15V. Double that for a 28V system.

All things equal - which approach are you taking

5 years ago, I would've told you RNAV. Now, with GPS jamming and spoofing being a real threat, I'd favor the ILS. If I can have both, RNAV as a primary (much more stable) with ILS also tuned and indicating for cross-check.

    Why would avionics backlighting pulse?

So... to exclude any external influence, put a piece of black electrical tape over the sender, followed by a piece of aluminum tape, if you have some. If you still see pulsing, turn the alternator off, as well as any high intermittent electrical loads (strobes, anti-collision light). It could be...

GA friendly airports in Newark area

One more vote for Linden. Flew there to pick up a friend who flew into EWR. Easy to get a rideshare to/from the airport.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

I didn't realize we've worked together :D A carefully hidden 100 ohm, 1/2 watt resistor somewhere on the 28V bus, preferably behind the fan that cools the box will also do the trick.

    Why switched grounds?

When using solid state switches, it is easier, cheaper and simpler to switch grounds instead of power. The power transistors used for the switching have better performance when built in the ground switching configuration.

    Zenith 750 stol

Have you looked at Aeromomentum? The AM15 (https://aeromomentum.com/am15-117hp-to-147hp/) or AM15T (https://aeromomentum.com/am15t-160hp/) would be good candidates for a 750. I have talked with the owner multiple times, he has an engineering background and is willing to share a lot of...

Do you turn around to inspect your run-up spot for leaks?

A common sight on a C-130 was buckets hanging under the engines to catch the leaking oil.

Jump starting a 'plane with a battery pack

I have a set of the top ones. Tried starting the plane when the battery was acting up. Didn't work. Too much contact resistance or voltage drop in the wires. Those alligator clips don't have a lot of surface area to make contact. Jumpstart pack across the battery worked first time, felt better...

    Bulging Lithium Battery: Stratux ADSB

Valid for any lipo battery you bring to the cockpit. If swollen, do not use. Probably overtemped or orvercharged. They (usually) don't vent or catch fire from that state during a moderate discharge, but disposing of it is still the best thing to do. Want to play it safe in the cockpit, get a...
