How do I get an FCC Radio Operators permit?

Submit FCC Form 605 through electronic filing in ULS. I believe that if you are not intending to fly outside the US, then it's no longer required.

For Sale: Aircraft 17204TT...at what point is too much

On an airframe with that many hours, I'd be deep in the maintenance books researching the service items for life limited, or required overhaul/teardown inspection parts, before I spent the money on buying it.

Thinking about a dual sport/adventure Motorcycle

Good to hear that you are healing up Ted. Hope you are able to get back to 100%. I broke my foot and ankle at work a bunch of years back. Wasn't bad enough to need surgery, but ended up with reduced motion in the joint. Two years later, on the first day I'd taken off in over a year, I stumbled...

Video is out on DG trial and quite interesting.

Small lot heat treat shop for DD rivets?

Check with the crew at Air Corps Aviation. I know they had to search a long time to find anyone that was qualified to make some special rivets they needed for a restoration.

    2024-T3 AL in Saint Louis?

There's probably at least a dozen suppliers..... Metal Supermarkets or Cardinal should have it in stock. May be just as cost effective to order it from AIrparts or Spruce.

Proposed Rule - Agent for Service

Been this way with the FCC for a long time. Have to have a recognized mailing address within the US if you hold any FCC license.

    Anyone build a hangar recently?

Chris: Even if you aren’t going to put a bathroom in, you should at least stub it out for one. Someday you might want to install one. No having to tear things up to get the plumbing into the slab then.

    Compound to polish aluminum

Both Nuvite and Flitz work well and will get you to a mirror finish. Understand that it takes time and a lot of work to get there.

Flight training through a university (r-atp)

Don’t forget that there are degree programs that are not 4 years. There are several technical colleges with 2 year programs that also have flight programs. TSTC down here in Texas is one, there are others around the country, so broaden your search a little.

What Dremel tool do you use to smooth blemishes in aluminum like this?

Wouldn’t use any power tools on this. A few minutes with progressively finer wet/dry paper or emery cloth and it will vanish. Might need a little jewelry rouge at the end to blend it all out.

    Hilltop Lakes, Tx.....

Anyone have any knowledge about or know someone at Hilltop Lakes, Tx? Looking to maybe buy a couple of lots on the airport and put up a hangar and apartment there. I've been priced out the DFW area for a couple of years now and retirement is getting close enough that we need to start making...

Van's Aircraft - Dimpled Hole Cracking Reported On Some Laser Cut Parts

Salty: Original discussion was on VAF. A poster on HBA started a thread talking about the problem and referenced the discussion on VAF. Several people that are members of both forums have posted on it at HBA. Daleandee brought it over from HBA, as there are several members of this board that...

Van's Aircraft - Dimpled Hole Cracking Reported On Some Laser Cut Parts

Salty: There are quite a few people that are on both VAF and HBA, as well as POA....Big things like this often get cross posted between multiple boards. It's why, when I do, I try and reference the originating data in my first post or two on the subject. It helps cut down on the corruption of...

From South to OSH - good fuel stop midway (HUF) and fartheset north (MSN)?

Depending on the kids age, might think about Baraboo for a full day or two stop. Take the kids to see the Circus World Museum. Well worth the day there, at least when I was a kid.

Van's Aircraft - Dimpled Hole Cracking Reported On Some Laser Cut Parts

Looks like they did some long term testing with the -12 parts they lasered. Tested to 30k flight hours in a flight school environment with no failures, with both normal and over sized holes in the parts. HBA== homebuiltaircraft.com
