    Bolt torque

Go up 1 length and add a .016" washer, or keep the current length and drop the washer thickness by .016". A third option is to change to a low profile castle nut. There are a few cases where engineering says exceed the maximum design torque to obtain the ability to insert a cotter pin, but...

    Spark plug anti seize question.

Graphite based lubricants have a problem in unconditioned air. They will absorb slight amounts of water, tend to clump and will hold any dirt that gets to them. Additionally, under the right conditions and against the right materials, graphite acts as an abrasive. On the F-16, the only thing...

    Cessna Citation I markings

For some reason, almost every Citation 1 photo I could find, had the fuselage in a cream or white, with the exception of these two: https://www.airliners.net/photo/KLM-Luchtvaartschool/Cessna-500-Citation/192331/L...

    Cheapest Twin on EBay Down

Interesting in that the NTSB found water in both tanks....Wonder if the fuel truck got sampled, as a missing gasket on one fuel cap would not necessarily account for water in another tank.

RR tracks: How close is too close?

We're about 3/4 of a mile from a pair of tracks and a mile from a group of 3 crossings. It's a fairly busy set of tracks, as it's one of the main corridors from Fort Worth going north. Even with the air conditioning going, any wind out of the eastern direction and you can hear the trains going...

How steep a ramp can an amphibian climb?

Per AC 150/5395-1A, the slope should be between 6:1 and 10:1. Anything under the 6 is too steep and over the 10 is too flat driving the length and expense way up.

What's YOUR Best Headwind Story ...

Friend was ferrying a Fiesler down to Harlingen for storage. Fort Worth to Harlingen took him 14 hours and 4 fuel stops.

    Cheapest Twin on EBay Down

MIght actually watch the video. Test flying was done, with no apparent squawks before flying the a/c home the next day. As to sitting, it had only been there for a little under two years.

Thinking about - er bought - a Jeep Gladiator

Hope you have better luck with yours than a guy on my crew has had with his... 2022 model and it's been in the shop for over a year in total. Biggest thing was some electrical problems where they had to install a completely new wiring harness for the entire vehicle, not once, but twice. He's had...

Alternatives to Zip Ties in Engine Compartment

As they age, they harden and act like either a grinder wheel or a saw blade on the mount tubing. Grit and grime get under them and becomes embedded in the inner surface of the plastic, turning it into a pretty good facsimile of a grinding wheel, sandpaper or a saw blade.

Adels, but be sure to get the proper ones for high temps, and fuel/oil resistance.

High Tech War Fighter Downed (on the ramp) by Low Tech Wrench

Most people would think that there was something in the water at work if they walked in on a FOD search on the hangar floor.....4-5 guys and gals laid out on the floor under the aircraft, with flashlights sweeping the concrete looking for that freakin aluminum AN960-3l washer one of the crew...

High Tech War Fighter Downed (on the ramp) by Low Tech Wrench

We downed a brand new F-16 at the plant one time for a lost screwdriver bit. We knew it had dropped in the cockpit, and the general area but after two days of tearing the cockpit apart and having more than a dozen people search it over that time, we finally had to resort to calling in the x-ray...

    Talking on the radio improvements

Something else that I know has helped others, is to get your Tech license as a ham operator and spend some time on the various local repeaters and simply rag chew a bit. Kills off the nervousness and as a little time goes by, it all becomes much more natural, like face to face conversations.

    Borescope Advice

Step up a little in $ and it gets you into a Teslong, which seems to be pretty good. All of ours at work are either Olympus or XL-GO's, but they are magnitudes above that cost level.

[NA] Who's enjoying this "arctic blast"?

Not enjoying it at all.....Anything below about 70F and I'm cold. Below 40 and I start hurting pretty good. Below 15 or so and I quit going outside unless I absolutely have to. Sucks, because the heaters in our hangars at work have a hard time keeping up with anything below about 40 if there is...

    Looking to build an airplane

Something to understand about building, is that the average completion time is something like 5-7 years. Dedicated builders can do it much quicker, but they typically are single and have no significant family life. Van's estimates a minimum of 2000 hours to build their 4 seat RV-10. Kyleb can...
