EPA Finds Small Airplanes Cause Dangerous Lead Pollution

Add to the previous post, leaded fuel was available for some time after 1975. Complete phase out wasn't until 1996. edit: 1st of this year our illustrious governor [Ensle] added about 50 cents to a gallon of gas as a penalty for carbon pollution.

    PA-44 down in Oregon

News this morning reported on another plane crash, Newberg Oregon. Only bringing this article here to ask a question. Since I have been on this forum seems every day or 2 there is new thread on a crash. Is it normal for this many crashes to occur in sequence...

    getting a license but older

There are a couple problems. One was admitting MJ 50 years ago. When filling out the medxpress can't say no. My DR has it on record that I admitted to it. Other was a pooled estimation of a 14% chance of cardiac event in 10 years. Have no idea how he arrived at that number. Again, my DR didn't...

Thanks for the positive comments. It would be easier decision if the new SP rule was already approved. It's an all or nothing game.

I can't make sense of this crash

Live about 20 miles south of the accident site since the mid 60's. I have never seen a pelican anywhere in this area. We are just on the edge of the migration path. They were horribly unlucky. RIP

    getting a license but older

Just to give an update. Listened to the suggestions. Went to an AME today without filling out the med form. He said I had several issues that will preclude me from passing a medical. The AME had several recommendations and I also contacted Dr Bruce. My personal Dr due to his wording on the last...

    question about piper value

Have been following aircraft sales for a while. Considering the purchase of a PA28 or 172 next year as a time builder. Looking at adds between the 2 brands Pipers seem to be priced quite a bit less with similar times, equipment and age. Know it is probably supply and demand but why? Is it the...

    AOPA VREF

Don't mean to jump on this thread but I have kind of the same question. Prices for what appears to be very similar aircraft can be all over the place, sometimes double. I am looking at 172's or PA 28 for a time builder. If a plane passes annual, how is it possible to need 18k in repairs the...

    Clear Coat Paint or Not

Clear coat is much more durable if proper application and mixing formula is followed. Brand quality varies immensely and there are different quality finishes even within brands. Good clear coats are expensive $600 + a gallon today, base colors are even more. For a normal sized vehicle, a gallon...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Well, I am 10 years behind/ahead at 69. My first hurdle in medical, then ground. No aspirations of doing anything beyond SP or PPL. Know there is a lot to learn, and it is completely outside my wheelhouse. Will see if a 69 year old brain can take it all in. If I get this done might inspire others.

(Soon to be) Hurricane Lee; This could be ugly

Are the aircraft flown out or are they in a sturdy hanger, if there is such a thing. Imagine insurance coverage would be hard to get.

Were there always this many wildfires?

Rumor is one of the fires near Spokane was started by a combine. That one burned almost 200 homes. We are drier than normal but with so many homes in rural areas things will happen.

    Gasoline Direct Injection [NA]

A real good fuel injector cleaner is Techron. Don't have to use it often may be once or twice a year. Carbon EGR deposits have been an auto problem for decades. Saw then almost daily for 15 years. Doesn't seem to be an issue today with the exception of some diesels.

Just commented on MOSAIC, have you?

thankyou, have a meeting set up Monday with a CFI and flight. Will probably get many questions answered then.

Just commented on MOSAIC, have you?

Your right it is confusing. Right now, I am in the information gathering stage for pilot training. Some here suggested not attempting a 3rd class in case I fail, then a sport license isn't an option. Will any of this apply to me?

Just commented on MOSAIC, have you?

New here, many of you seem very excited about this rule. Trying to understand it. What are the differences between a Sport pilot and private license or aircraft other than medical? Also, if I understand correctly this only applies to license holders with medical before 2006. After that a 3rd...

    Premature Solo?

Would there be any repercussions/investigation from the FAA for the CFI or student?

    getting a license but older

Have a meeting with another flight school in a week. There are 2 within a reasonable travel distance. Don't think medical will be a problem, I have a CDL and no health issues other than needing glasses. It's really the unknown attempting this and above all want to be safe. Thanks for the...

    getting a license but older

Have wanted to get a private license for 20 years. Life and lack of funds got in the way. Now I am 69. Have been following subjects here. Kind of getting the idea that I have waited too long. Age may be an insurmountable roadblock, especially insurance. Talked to one flight school they were...
