    lahso student question

That's not me at all. This flying thing is very humbling. Thanks for the responses, will announce my student status from now on.

    lahso student question

Did the long solo today. At one of the stops the controller gave me LAHSO instructions. I was just 2 miles out and configured to land when he told me that. Runway was very long [2 miles+]. I probably could have landed without any problems. However, I told the controller I was a student. He...

2 Delta workers killed at ATL after tire explosion 8/27/24

Almost all trucks today are single piece wheels. Overall, much safer. However, a friend does tires for a transit system. Just last week during inflation a sidewall started to rupture inside a cage. They were able to deflate it before total failure. So, it can still happen.

2 Delta workers killed at ATL after tire explosion 8/27/24

We used to inflate split rims under an in-ground hoist arm. Back in the day, was a very common procedure at gas stations. Air pressure was much lower about 80. Only larger truck tire shops had inflation cages. Never saw one go off but still bothered me to work on them. Today few shops will work...

    nervous

No I am not looking to taking a nap while flying. Main reason for the question is nervousness normal and should I say with it. Am usually not nervous at all. Took me by surprise. Taking a couple weeks off for a vacation. Will get back at it afterward. Thanks for the suggestions and comments.

    nervous

That makes me feel better. CFI wanted to reschedule the long CC that day. Declined until I analyzed where my mind was at. The weather really through me. During the 20 or so minutes pre-flighting the plane went from dead calm to 15K with gusts. The decision to turn around ended up being a good...

    nervous

For those of you who started out nervous how long did it take to calm down. Am over it with the CFI in the plane. Flying solo still has me on edge. This spring and summer hasn't been the best year to learn. Been windy 7 out of 10 days and last week was no exception. Had a long cross-country...

For those that live in the colder areas, how do you deal with snow?

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Am getting a little frustrated. Have 100+ landings and a little more than 45 hours. Most of the training so far has gone without a hitch,,,,,,,,,, except landings. Can do 3 or 4 in a row that are perfectly acceptable then I bounce one bad enough that I usually abort it. Not knowing when I will...

Why Alkaline Batteries are not in my flight bag

Had a Duracell battery leak in a weather station a few weeks after purchase. Duracell covered the loss. Tried Energizer, so far no problems. Eneloop is another brand that has good feedback.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

yes, if I am reading it right, less than 15, X wind less than 8 on last solo

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Asked the CFI for crosswind training, know it is a weak point. Wants to send me on this cross country now. Not sure I understand the thought process. Is CW and other landings like short field usually done later in training?

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

A question about crosswind landings. Really botched a solo crosswind landing last week. Didn't dent anything but scared the crap out of me. Went out today did a few touch and goes just to get my confidence back. Going out again next week to do a few more. CFI wants me to solo about 100 miles to...

    Forgetting to switch tanks

A PA28 ran out of fuel in one tank on a training flight about a week ago. Landed on a not yet open part of a new freeway about 5 minutes from the airport. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/it-became-a-perfect-runway-wsdot-reacts-to-emergency-plane-landing/ar-BB1mOq70?ocid=BingNewsSerp

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Understand, CFI apologized at one point. This isn't flat land so there are updrafts and downdrafts as well as the base wind and gusts. Just wasn't a good learning environment. That might be why we are doing the same lap in reverse next week. One thing that makes this easier all the controllers...

    Treat oil leaks seriously

I have used dye on oil leaks and AC leaks in automobiles. It will almost immediately show with a black light. Actually, biggest problem with dye is waiting too long to put a light on it. The dye gets everywhere, then becomes hard to locate the source.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

That's the order and what I was doing. Forecast was for wind and gusts we knew that. CFI said I needed more time in less than ideal conditions and using the radio, got both. Doing the same stops in reverse next week. Think conditions deteriorated more than he expected. Too much of my attention...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Lesson today, was basically for radio procedures into controlled airspace. Very windy/gusty most of my attention was on keeping the plane shinny side up. Made 3 out of the 4 landings ok in gusty crosswinds. CFI had to intervene on one of them. Got a gust from the left then another one from the...

how much risk flying in windy conditions

CFI told me we are going to do that at some point. Am not in any hurry to advance the training because or money or time limitations. Want to get everything down as we go to be as safe as possible. Told the CFI that. Know there is a risk that the school will milk it but at this point not seeing...

how much risk flying in windy conditions

A post earlier said GEG had 49k gusts. What I am getting out of this is experience helps immensely. We got winds all day today [Saturday] although not as strong. A flight school out of Felts was in the air earlier. Doubt they were doing much landing practice with low time students. Been windy...
