    Egregious FBO charges

"Sovereign citizens" are generally at odds with governmental entities like police and courts. FBOs are a private-sector entities, which don't usually have a right to your money without agreement in advance.

    Egregious FBO charges

Some of the advantages of a capitalist society go out the window when there's a monopoly, which is what you have when the sole transient parking area at at airport is leased to a single private-sector entity.

    Egregious FBO charges

Another example: People like to park under the shade of my Magnolia tree. It's a publicly-owned street, so no problem. It would be great if I could lease that strip of pavement from the city and then charge people $385 for parking there without any advance notice.

Insurance Company Throws A Logical Twist

The thing I'm wondering is whether insurance companies are actually seeing an increase in claims for older pilots on BasicMed, or is it just theoretical? The accident history I saw was for BasicMed as a whole, not just older pilots, but it was similar to pilots with medical certificates, which...

Insurance Company Throws A Logical Twist

It's not just the costly testing for an SI that puts people off; it's also the prospect of being grounded for a year or so while the FAA takes their sweet time getting around to making a decision. And during that year, your skills are deteriorating.

And here all this time I thought that weather-related accidents were mainly caused by pilots flying INTO bad or iffy weather.

    Teardrop Entry

Because of the "unless well clear" exception in 91.113(b), I think that time to the airport is more important than distance to the airport.

    lahso student question

AIM 4-2-4c still recommends saying "student pilot" on the radio. (And by the way, it only recommends it on the initial call.) The word "learner" does not appear anywhere in the AIM.

    Teardrop Entry

If the planes in the pattern are flying normal-size patterns for bug smashers, I think the "unless well clear" exception in 91.113(b) would apply.

resuming basic med after 2 years, discontinued meds

You're right, I misquoted the regulation and have edited my post accordingly. I don't consider his beliefs to be definitive. I'm just saying that the objective reality of whether he's under the influence of a drug that could make him unsafe to fly is not the same thing as convincing the FAA of...

I wish I had done this routinely on my student solos. Most of the time it wasn't needed, but I didn't know in advance when it would be.
