    Extraordinary Feats of Music

For those of us who aren't familiar with the song "Misirlou", it's a Greek pop tune from the early 20th century. It got a new lease on life when surf rock founder Dick Dale recorded it in the early 60's. Quentin Tarantino repopularized it when he included it in "Pulp Fiction". More recently, the...

    Extraordinary Feats of Music

The holidays are over, college football is over, and the Rolex 24 at Daytona isn't for a couple of weeks, so not much on the telly that interests me. I was poking around the internet, and found a few musical pieces that were, shall we say, surprising. First up is a gentleman who is an accordion...

    Hiring standards are dropping

The big tech firms were hiring like crazy because their goal was market share above all else, which is common at the outset of an industry. They've moved past that phase and are now focusing on profitability, and are laying off staff who have been working on unprofitable projects.

Thinking about... buying a new TV

We have a Roku connected to each TV. The TV in our exercise room is around 15 years old and we can use the latest streaming services thanks to the Roku. If it becomes obsolete, you get another one, it's about $35 - $50 at Target, depending on the model. You can program the Roku remote to operate...

Thinking about... buying a new TV

Old enough to have been one of those early model remote controls. We did have one of those Space Command remote equipped TVs, my mother dropped her keys and the TV came on. We tried doing it intentionally, never could get it to do that a second time.

Thinking about... buying a new TV

There are a number of streaming devices that you can plug into your current TV. We use Roku here, I'm know Apple has a TV product as well. It's been my experience that the TV itself should last 10 years or more, but streaming services come and go. I'd look at the picture and sound quality of...

A 900 NM flight isn't five hours in an airliner. For this mission, I'd take the airliner. The climate control is much better, and you're flying over the weather, or diverting around it. There's a reason that I asked how much time you've spent in a light GA plane is that I don't thing anyone...

How much time have you spent in a small general aviation aircraft? Legs of 4+ hours can be quite uncomfortable.

Race car between cyclecart and formula vee?

I'd be hesitant to jump into a Formula Enterprises car if I didn't have some experience on something purpose built that ran a racing tire. I had been driving an Improved Touring Scirocco, and wanted something faster. I was thinking of a Formula Continental/2000 which added wings to the equation...

    Age 75+ Insurance

That's horrible. I can see making older pilots do some sort of screening periodically, but to flat out refuse to insure you, that's just wrong. It's not like you're wanting to fly a PC-12 into a Bravo, that's a little old fly for fun VFR airplane.
