mind you, I have the same reaction with mis-placed sci fi references.. the force being with Picard or some other nonsense ..I suppose there's a spectrum of acceptable truth.. for instance. But at what point is it acceptable to put a Delta A330 (large widebody long haul) vs A319 (small narrow...

If you had 3 months to travel in your plane, where would you go?

That happened to a family member traveling with a very nice violin to Poland from the US

If you had 3 months to travel in your plane, where would you go?

Those three months would go quick! From here I'd fly up through and around Utah, Idaho, Montana, up into Alaska, zoom across Canada then down to Florida and out on the islands, then back to San Diego. 3 Months may not even be enough time!

Who should pay for the cost of rescues?

I've heard this a couple times about the sub 'these rich idiots got on a piece of crap, F* 'em!' Not to defend the ubiquitous 'rich' but these folks likely had no idea just how much risk they were getting into. There are two YouTubers who rode on that same sub, one actually made it to the...

Who should pay for the cost of rescues?

I mean, SAR teams do an extensive amount of training.. it's not like they're just sitting in a room all day waiting for an emergency. They're out there every day constantly training and preparing. Who pays for that? Rhetorical. When a 'real' emergency happens I see it as a great opportunity to...

Cool! I was unaware of this! I mean, am I the only plane dork here? Am I a plane (otherwise idiot) savant?

    Another ramp worker ingested

Sure, but you're not writing articles about aviation related topics To me it would be like writing an article about the Patriots and then having the lead photo be a picture of a soccer ball next to a volleyball net. "They're all sports" I don't know the first thing about sports, nor care to...

    Another ramp worker ingested

Careless Aviation is not some obscure topic. Sure they are not all geeks, but, it's something most people will do at least a couple times in their lives and something that everyone is well familiar with. The more worrisome thing it hints at though, is the similar lack of knowledge elsewhere...

Minor media rant warning.. // but how hard would it be to at least source an image of the correct plane type, even if not the incident aircraft itself. They throw an A330 picture up there, not A319. At worst it's misleading, at best its careless

    Sub lost contact over Titanic

this guy just published a video, he was on it days before the accident In the video you see Rush and the team. They didn't dive due to weather, but he was in the sub for a 30 foot test dive

Getting low and slow on short short final

Talking RPM and MP I've got the blue knobs forward and MP around 15 inches But in this example I've never been that slow in a twin (outside of short final) where if I pull throttle to idle they reduce to 2100. Depending on what I'm flying they're screaming anywhere from 2500 to 2700 But the...

Getting low and slow on short short final

Not in any twin I've flown.. props definitely rev right up. Also, always over blue line. You lose an engine with a dirty plane and you're not going to speed up to blue line and have train clearance in time!

Getting low and slow on short short final

Pitch for airspeed, power for altitude I know it's a cliche but it really is as simple as that. As soon as people have that click in their heads all of a sudden every landing is a greaser and they're touching down exactly on their touchdown point

The Pilots of America Unofficial Hall of Fame, Troll Edition

I didn't see it mentioned above, my favorite was spraying cold water into the engine and hearing a noise.. hosing the plane down after a flight and CFI freaking out. Or something like that https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/spraying-water-into-a-hot-engine.97626/

my turn to be that guy...

Probably shouldn't get involved but the whole flag thing sounds like a dubious solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The AIM has procedures to follow at untowered airports and how patterns work for nordo planes. A flag introduces way too much ambiguity. At the minimum at least use a...

Is turbulence bad for airframe or engine?

If you are in the envelope, then no. Slow to maneuver if it gets past light.

Student Pilot Solo Cross Country Overnight?

How much experience do you have managing wx, flying in haze, and stuff that is technically VFR but limited VIZ? Just because an airport is green on Foreflight doesn't tell you much Sorry, just being honest

Student Pilot Solo Cross Country Overnight?

Sounds foolish to be honest. As a CFI I would never sign off on this. If I felt like my student was good enough to do it I would just get him squared away with his practical and official cert..
