    Velocity 6 place down

DAMN. This sucks. This is my dream plane. Very curious what happened... any reason to believe the nature of it being a "twin" was a factor? Seems the sentiment here is that maybe it was? For sure. Not that I have the time, space, or money if I'm being honest to buy/build this now. But it was...

DPEs: how firm is the >50NM rule? Would distances of 49.5NM be rounded up?

Doh! Cheers and happy aviating. F70 is a cool airport near us but it's just under the 50 nautical miles but by a wide enough margin that it's not something like 0.2nm.. too bad because it means people have to go to HMT which in my opinion is a less interesting place

3rd class to 1st class question

Cool! Go for it! If that is the long-term plan then certainly makes sense to uncover anything up front

3rd class to 1st class question

Congrats on going for first class, but may I ask why? Unless you want to exercise certain commercial priveleges/ATP I don't see the advantage. Thinking of air carrier work? Anyway, I believe the answer depends on what would deny the first class and if that also disqualifies the third class...

Night solo flying / thought processes?

Not judging those who listen to music I just never got into it myself when I'm doing another activity, IE, flying, skiing, or hiking. Part of the experience for me are the natural sounds.. However when I cook or am working music is a must

5000 Pilots suspected of hiding health issues

I suppose not. But there's some 'appeal to authority' fallacy I think between the two. People know what they're getting with YouTube, see Dan Gryder, but they're epxecting a higher caliber with something like WaPo or NYT, for example. My big issue with any platform is the clickbait or...

    Premature Solo?

That's the scary part, right! All the prep work, stage checks, etc., ultimately when they solo that will be their first time in a plane completely alone.. you simply cannot 100% predict how they'll manage the stress, etc. I send all my people with another CFI first and make sure I get a few...

    Premature Solo?

yeah, same. That's my strategy as well. Brief on the ground, get in the plane, and unless there's a violation or safety of flight issue I keep my mouth shut. Interesting to see how people change from very confident to "h*ly cr@p!" when the right seater goes silent..!

Night solo flying / thought processes?

I love flying at night. The peace and the twinkling lights below. Aviation is all about mitigating risks and finding the compromise.

5000 Pilots suspected of hiding health issues

People still read mainstream media? The news is a clickbait joke.

    Cheap and fast MEI program.

I mean, I understand that viewpoint. But; shouldn't the aircraft's airworthiness and overall eligibility and applicability be examined before the check ride? If the examiner isn't comfortable with the aircraft and the applicant demonstrating a shutdown and feather then probably the check ride...

    Cheap and fast MEI program.

What's the concern with a shut down? We're not talking about a geared engine or a turbo (I assume). Is it shock cooling? Hasn't that myth been largely dispelled? Eric Reese does full shut downs and VMC demos in Aerostars.. planes that have a reputation. Fast forward to 15:45 if desired...

737 Hard Landing at John Wayne

Check out the AvHerald: https://avherald.com/h?article=50d52882&opt=0 An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N516AS performing flight AS-1288 from Seattle,WA to Santa Ana,CA (USA), landed on Santa Ana's runway 20R at 23:14L (06:14Z Aug 21st) but touched down hard causing the left...

    PA-28 down, Florida Treasure Coast

I think that is what many people's perception is though when they hear that a wing came off probably made especially true from Embry Riddle.. Isn't the load limit 4.4? The poh is not in front of me but that number sticks out Anyway, I'm looking forward to the results. One of my favorite planes...

    PA-28 down, Florida Treasure Coast

Thanks! I found one of these Googling around as well. I think what is startling on the ERAU accident (and maybe this one pending what we learn) was the relative innocuous nature. 'He flew into a thunderstorm' is one thing, vs 'he was turning crosswind' (or some other less 'exciting' action) is...

    PA-28 down, Florida Treasure Coast

True, and I too happily fly in and teach in PA-28. I've long felt the low wings generally fly nicer. However, the PA-28 is not without comparison. There have been over 40,000 C172 built and are also routinely abused, rode hard, and put away wet. Any comparative data on inflight breaksups, namely...
