Panel upgrade with Dynon HDX And Avidyne 540. Just waiting for the AP certificatation

Thanks Priyo, Georgey and Mark! It's held on with velcro, Racer, and always plugged into avionics bus power. Seems to work very well and is readily accessible to the thumbs.

With a ramp full of BUFFs, I'd say it's appropriate.

Military plane down in Michigan (Upper Peninsula)

F-16s carry hydrazene for their EPU (emergency power unit) and crashes are always secured for that reason. Of course if there is usually at least TP ammo on board too.

Anyone using Dynon Skyview HDX with WingX Pro?

Checked it today. WingX doesn't appear to use any attitude data. Not sure if Dynon isn't putting it in the stream or if WingX isn't using it. I did connect my Stratux to my iPad and ran WingX, and WingX used the Statux attitude information just fine.

Anyone using Dynon Skyview HDX with WingX Pro?

Yes, but I can't tell you what products were in the stream (cloud base, lightning, etc.). I just noticed NEXRAD, so that told me FIS-B was also coming across. Unfortunately I've got the system apart again so I won't be able to tell you more for at least a couple of weeks.

    Navy T-6 Down in AL.

I agree with everything you said, but the T-38 I'm referencing was at a show at Hill AFB (Ogden) in the early 80s. Civilians had been jumping the fence on the south side of the field all day, and the SPs had been continuously moving them back out. During the T-Bird show, the SPs lost control...

    Navy T-6 Down in AL.

Indeed, there might be a good reason they didn't punch. I watched a Thunderbird (T-38) pilot stay with his plane after a dual engine out, to avoid the crowd. He died.

Anyone using Dynon Skyview HDX with WingX Pro?

A few days ago I connected my iPad to my HDX, and launched WingX, which displayed traffic and weather from the HDX perfectly, but I forgot to check WingX synthetic vision or its Attitude Indicator to see if it is also using ADAHRS from the HDX. The traffic display on WingX Also showed aircraft...

Civilian aircraft, landing at military fields....permission

Yes, for over 10 years. My insurance company sends the 2400 to the pentagon yearly, and I resubmit the 2401 every year, both by email. Easy to do. The guy presently in the position turns them in less than an hour. The 2402 is a Hold Harmless, done once initially. As a retiree, I am...

    Hangar space issue

I've only been based at two airports, 500 miles apart. The first was a very rural county airport, with a manager and board chairman that had been in their positions for 25+ years, running the place autonomously. No oversite (accountable to no one), and an interest to keep it small, for their...

    Autopilot comparison chart

Thanks. I'm trying to determine my options. I have a Dynon HDX system in my Cardinal, and no autopilot. I would be willing to stick a G5 in the panel as a third attitude reference, and to provide attitude & heading to the GFC500, and I'd be willing to set the baro as required. I wonder if...

    Autopilot comparison chart

On a GFC500 and G5 system, what actions, if any, must be taken on the G5? Is the G5 used to set barometric pressure, or to move a heading bug, etc.?

someone shot at a military helo

When I lived in Loudon County, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo were busy shooting up the place, and it was because of anti-american sentiments. Tom's statement is not far fetched and not worthy of ridicule.

    V8 172

Are you saying there is causality? GA in Europe (or lack thereof) and over regulation? Sure, but I don't want to copy and paste all of Part 23 here. Instead, compare the timeline to bring an autopilot (or engine) to market pre WWII, and what that effort looks like today. I know there is a...

    V8 172

I agree, but go deeper. What caused the market to dry up? I believe demand dried up because people realized that GA was impractical, same as it is today (it is too damn hard, and too damn expensive for most, with very little practicality). As kids, we were sure that by the 21st century we'd...

    V8 172

Just imagine stagnation due to over-regulation. Oh wait, we don't have to imagine it. Can you imagine the Wright Bros spending 15 years to get their engine or prop certified? Doubt Kitty Hawk would have happened if they had the constraints that today's innovators have. And today, innovation...
