FAA Drops Expiration Date from CFI

You mean like they've been doing for years? You either instruct or you have to do the FIRC or retake a ride.

Skew-T diagrams removed because blind people can’t see them

Don't blame the agency, blame the situation on the fact that there are people out there that have a business of suing over perceived discrimination by not having proper alt text on things.

    Lockheed Martin

I worked for Martin Marrieta Denver Aerospace ages ago (right out of college). In my later career, I often did contract work for a group that was IBM FSD, Loral, and then Lockheed-Martin.

Continental engine distributors other than Air Power

Nope. Had it freighted to my a&p.

Continental engine distributors other than Air Power

I bought mine direct from the factory. Of course, I was royally ****ed off with them, but I had no choice.

    Aviation Etiquette

Years ago at IAD there were two FBOs. Signature (the successor to Page) and the upstart Hawthorne. The person running Hawthorne had a simple philosophy. Treat everyone nicely. You never know if the guy who flew in the Bonanza on Saturday wasn't the guy in the back of the Gulfstream on...

Pilot threatened with arrest for helping NC victims of Hurricane Helene...excuse me?

There are organized operations. There are calls out at the airports here in central here for the supplies needed and pilots moving from those collection points to the places needed. There's a far cry from loading up your plane with stuff you "think" are needed and flying to some place you...

Trip to Rhinebeck and Smithsonian Air & Space Museums

Yes. It used two of the three floors. The stupid thing is people believed it kept swinging based on the rotation of the earth. That caused the thing to swing in a particular apparent direction. The force to make it keep swinging was an electromagnet under the floor in the center of the...

Trip to Rhinebeck and Smithsonian Air & Space Museums

The "Star Spangled Banner" has been there since the museum opened. It was taken away in the late 70s to be redone and was put back with the cover over it because it was accumulating a lot of detritus from being exposed all the time. I guess I just got used to it and the pendulum...

    Altitude over I-70

What was really idiotic was the notam they put out after 9/11 telling you to avoid nuking plants by giving rather imprecise locations of them. Several were listed in the wrong state from where they really were. They listed one of the Salem plant in Delaware (it's in NJ). At one time they...

Trip to Rhinebeck and Smithsonian Air & Space Museums

Yes. Growing up outside of DC I got spoiled by the Smithsonian and other DC museums. It was a shock to me that museums weren't always free when I moved elsewhere. I used to be a regular hangout at the Museum of History and Technology (now American History). It was my favorite thing to do...

    Airspeed indicator suggestions

You can always send the indicator out to be repaired/rebuilt. I did mine years ago and they even cleaned up the paint on the dial arcs in the process. Alas, I can't recommend the shop I used because they got bought out subsequently and went into the toilet.

Getting "Trapped" By AME's Refusing Fast Track

The stated argument is to allow the FSDOs to monitor the examiners. The real reason is corruption.

Trip to Rhinebeck and Smithsonian Air & Space Museums

The problem with the downtown building was that they cut corners on the construction of the building and the thing was literally coming apart. They also wanted to revamp things that they wanted different from when this place was put into operation in 1976. Hell, if you were an associate...

Getting "Trapped" By AME's Refusing Fast Track

DPEs aren't driven away by paperwork, the number of available designee approvals is intentionally constrained by the FAA and this is made worse by the FAA abdicating what little examining work they did with FAA inspectors.

    Altitude over I-70

Amusingly, those cooling towers are not limited to nuclear plants and not all nuclear plants have them. They are used whenever you need to cool turbine water and you're not allowed to dump it in a nearby body of water.

    Altitude over I-70

That would be news to the FAA then: That's the Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant. The Salem plants don't say power plant but they do say "stacks and cooling towers" on the chart.

    I bid none: none dollars

I got an ATM for $10 from an S&L liquidation that way. Alas, there was no money left inside it.
