    Continental O-470 proper throttle connection.

The nut and cotter pin are a lot easier to inspect when they're outboard of the lever than when they're inboard.

Location reporting in magnetic or true?

Give them your magnetic heading or location in flight. The runway and ground winds are reported in magnetic. Winds aloft are reported in true, which is why you have to adjust your calculated heading, after wind correction, for the magnetic variation. When I learned to fly in BC (a long time...

    Why switched grounds?

Cars might be doing it differently, but they have a lot of plastic body panels now. Those don't work too well for ground paths. The big problems with switched grounds is that the wire to the load is hot all the time the master is on and, as has been noted, a long return ground line is...

Best plane for first time plane owner?

That percentage is getting bigger all the time, and the pain that comes with it is getting worse, too. Arthritis. I don't think I could get into a Cub now. But most of you are younger and, if not really fit, at least you're still flexible. Appreciate it while you have it.

    Why switched grounds?

Draw out a circuit to feed the tail strobe using switched grounding.

    Why switched grounds?

No fuse. Never have I ever seen a fuse in that wire. There are fuses near the battery for the clock and hourmeter, but they are not related to the master circuit. A fuse there will eventually fail though simple corrosion, and leave the pilot with a dead system for no good reason. The master...

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

I had those awful Goodyears. But Beringer likely has done it much better. I can't see them copying a failed idea.

Best plane for first time plane owner?

The best airplane isn't a particular model. It's an airplane that has been properly maintained. POA is full of stories of horrific first annual inspections finding expensive and inexcusable defects. Add to that the constant stream of tales of alternator, magneto and vacuum pump failures simply...

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

A big wing full of fuel, striking the top of the fin of a bizjet, should easily bust the fin spars. Lots of leverage, lots of mass, maybe some speed, against a structure designed to handle high winds, basically.

    Bellanca Super Viking Communications Issue

Well, after 48 years.... Sounds like an audio panel problem. Try pulling it out and pushing it back in. Old connector pins get oxidized/dirty/whatever. People that smoked in their airplanes really gummed things up, including the gyros.

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

Cars stopped using tube-type tires a very long time ago. 1960s. Beringer makes STC'd wheel and brake kits for many models, though only the 182 is listed for the Cessnas so far. PA-28 is covered. They're likely working on the others. Tubeless wheels with an O-ring seal. No leaky tubes or failing...

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

He reamed the guides to a larger clearance than the minimum. The aluminum head and bronze guide will both expand at twice the rate per degree that the steel valve stem does. That means that the clearances should get larger when hot, though that valve stem is going to be somewhat hotter than the...

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

Goodyear was using a part number decal inside the tire, with a hard plastic overlay on it. That overlay comes loose as the tire flexes, and its edges chafe through the tube. I had several flats show up from that. I started taking that overlay and decal out of the tires.

    Unusual attitude indicator

That's all it is. Nothing a on a string can show attitude. All it can show is coordination.

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

I don't know. This is from a 2011 version of the overhaul manual: So for the exhaust valves, .003 to .0045". I don't have an older manual for comparison

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

I had that happen while learning to fly. It was in an O-300, the big brother to the O-200. Same cylinders. Couldn't fly the airplane home, so the instructor and I took a Cessna Cardinal. First and last time I flew one. It was one of the 1968 150-HP models, underpowered. But a really nice...

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

An engine overhauler told me that Continental's minimum clearance for those valves was too tight, and they'd stick.

    Auto conversion ideas

If you look again at that inspection checklist, you'll see that engine overhaul is listed. But the manual doesn't tell you how to overhaul the engine. You use the engine overhaul manual for that. Similarly, Piper expects you to inspect the alternator in accordance with the alternator...

    Removing Warrior Yokes

I'd be more concerned with the aluminum casting of that control wheel, which is its proper name. The yoke is the mechanism behind the panel that rocks back and forth and carries the aileron control mechanisms. Powder coating involves baking temps of 400 or 450°F. That's higher than the...

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

Did the guy put mixed gas in it? Gas mixed with 2-stroke oil? Dumb, but you know how it is out there...the borrower might have figured that aircooled engines are all two-strokes and have to have mixed gas. Too many student pilots never touch a fuel nozzle or read a POH or anything else...
