    Pilotless Helo

The Blackhawk has AFCS the makes for an easier ride, reduce pilot workload, and the later M models have fully-coupled autopilots. The Huey didn’t have any of that, and was a “helicopter pilot’s” helicopter. Can’t speak for the Robinson.

    Helicopter flight training?

There’s this little place in Ft. Rucker, AL. It only trains about 80% of the world’s helicopter pilots. :heli:

Variation of a theme, how many check rides?

Pops has me beat with 42 years of an aviation career, never sitting behind a desk. I can't beat that...ever. But for me going forward, my office will be at FL410. Not too late to turn my passion and Guard career into a full-time job with the big iron. And I'm proud to say my boy is carrying...

Variation of a theme, how many check rides?

A funny correlation. My boy at the Air Force Academy is prepping for his Private written. Not too worried, he got his Part 107 several years ago, he’ll be good to go. But, I never even got my PPL back in the day. So he’ll have his Part 107, and PPL before me…and he got his jump wings last...

Roger. I concur, but the majority of my experience is military. We haven’t quite figured out how to unionize yet ;)

    Pilot Awarded $1.9 Million.

Go until you can’t. If you can’t, and say you can’t, have the regulations to back you up. Knowing the regulations is a critical first step. Years past, me or my crews have been under such “undue command influence” (aka the boss); however, backed up by regulatory criteria, you’ll never lose. It...

    FAR/AIM on Kindle?

In this day and age, an EFB on an Android or iPad is a necessity. The ASA FAR/AIM app mentioned above hit the nail right on the head. The Kindle just won’t cut it. May as well make the transition now - it’s gunna have to happen sooner or later.

    Navajo Cost of Ownership?

If your mission dictates a twin, get one. Pressurization gives you more options, but at the end of the day, getting into a twin for personal use means you need to have the flexibility and be ready for ??? for the budget. I’ve enjoyed ours, wouldn’t have anything less than a twin (UL, speed...

    Helicopter Rope Dangle

That’s quite the investment to answer a question that has a lot of bearing on….not much. If you’re doing hoist or external loads, keep the load steady… I know that wasn’t the question, but that’s about the only practical applicability.
