Do you think a bachelors degree will ever become necessary again to become a pilot at the airlines?

We have been fed a lot of BS about the value of a BA. What everyone needs is a marketable skill. Sometimes that involves a degree. Sometimes the degree offers nothing in the way of a marketable skill. Don't overlook other opportunities to gain skills and certifications which can be a back up...

    Wealth Distribution in America

There success, per se, is not. However, the combination of moving manufacturing out of the country, the tax code that incentivizes private equity to gobble up companies, load then with debt to get their money out, and then shove them into bankruptcy, are systemic problems that are having a...

Judges don't get paid based on how they rule. It is, however true, with state and local judges that are elected, a judge might feel somewhat constrained not to **** off too many people This does not apply to federal judges who have a fixed salary and life-time appointment, save for the very...

In theory, but judges need stronger mandates to make it happen.

Ferry flight lawsuit (mods please help with title)

I was speaking conceptually and mostly responding to cases where a manufacturer is sued, even through none of their product was in the plane. I was not making a specific, legalistic proposal for legislation. Even given the ambiguity inherent in the word "shred", I don't see where anything...

Ferry flight lawsuit (mods please help with title)

I know it doesn't CURRENTLY work that way. I am advocating that one of the kinds of tort reformed needed is to sanction attorneys for naming defendants without a shred of evidence that liability might accrue. Admittedly, the wrongfully named defendant would move/sue for their attorney's fees...

Ferry flight lawsuit (mods please help with title)

The fact that Brin's liability is unknown should mandate he not be sued until it is known. Under your hypothetical, the plaintiff's will learn of Brin's perfidy upon receipt of the first responses to written discovery requests as other defendants will not want to take the rap for something that...

Ferry flight lawsuit (mods please help with title)

I agree that we need laws that require judges to do some gatekeeping in conjunction with requirements to plead some facts that suggests liability might be found against a particular defendant. Combine that with liberal rules allowing adding defendants if the plaintiffs discover facts later that...

Can an annual substitute for a pre-purchase inspection? If an annual is done before the due date do any maintenance issues need to be fixed?

My question was a bit different than the one you answered, if such it was. I was asking why you are advocating spending money on a pre-buy looking at things that will have no affect on the decision whether to buy the plane or not.

    Supreme Court: Chevron Deference

Part of the reason that ambiguous bills get passed is because both parties want it that way so that they can tell their supporters the most favorable/popular interpretation of legislation. SCOTUS striking down term limits on Congress-critters was very unfortunate as such would improve...

Ferry flight lawsuit (mods please help with title)

I believe that the owner is a corporate entity, so that would not affect Brin. The owner is not strictly liable for the airworthiness under a negligence cause of action. Nothing was pled that shows that the owners were negligent. By statute, aircraft owners in California can be...

Ferry flight lawsuit (mods please help with title)

Tortious interference with a dead body I don't think can be stretched to require the owner to recover the aircraft from the ocean depths. That should be thrown out. Wrongful death, negligence, and product liability all have legs, but probably not against Brin. Conversion is the civil...

Can an annual substitute for a pre-purchase inspection? If an annual is done before the due date do any maintenance issues need to be fixed?

Why should a pre-buy spend money looking at things that will not affect the value of the deal? I can spend hours inspecting wheel bearings for pitting or aileron pulleys for adequate lubrication, but how does that help the buyer make a purchasing decision?

Ferry flight lawsuit (mods please help with title)

I don't see anything in that complaint that would stick to Brin personally. I do think that there is liability to be found, just not against Brin, and probably not the corporate owners. Nothing seems to allege that the collective owners were negligent in whom they hired to make the...

Can an annual substitute for a pre-purchase inspection? If an annual is done before the due date do any maintenance issues need to be fixed?

An annual inspection gives you a certification that an IA has the opinion that the aircraft is minimally airworthy at the moment of signing the logbook. If you want to buy a minimally airworthy aircraft, then an annual is for you. If you want to obtain an assessment of what might be coming up...

California FBOs Told To Stop Selling 100LL, Switch To G100UL

If a state were to ban 100LL then the exclusive contract with the distributor is probably null and void unless that distributor has some fuel to provide that is acceptable to the state. The contract with the airport very likely has what is called a Force Majeure clause that says that the...

California FBOs Told To Stop Selling 100LL, Switch To G100UL

If Phillips agreed to the consent decree, then it will be the one breaking the contract as they will cease to deliver. If Phillips is not a party to the consent decree, then they can continue shipping 100LL to your airport.

But if the distributors are not even shipping 100LL into California, what then? You have to get the fuel to put it in.
