    Wag-Aero's Demise

It seems you are the one spouting dogma. I have been in that six figure income bracket, W-2 type, and I sure paid more than 20% federal income tax. The tax code favors passive income compared to the middle to upper middle class wage-earners. That is the reality.

Lower than the billionaire. I was speaking of the $100K-$500K, but the point still stands. People who obtain their income from passive investments pay a lower percentage of their income in taxes, generally speaking.

    Wag-Aero's Demise

Regardless of your personal tax situation, it has little bearing on the rest of the 330M people in the US.

    Wag-Aero's Demise

Take the struggling working class out of it and look at the actual middle class making $100K-$500K and re-run your numbers.

    Wag-Aero's Demise

My mistake. I am not up on the new math. When I went to school, 37% (highest income tax bracket) was higher percentage than 20% (highest long term capital gains tax). When did they change that, anyway?

    Wag-Aero's Demise

Now we just need to fix the capital gains mess that allows billionaires to pay a lower percent in taxes than their low level employees.

    Wag-Aero's Demise

I hear you! Need tax policy favoring income from producing goods and services rather than giving favorable treatment to passive investments.

    Wag-Aero's Demise

I went to the Wag-Aero website today only to be redirected to an announcement from Aircraft Spruce that it has acquired Wag-Aero. Consolidation probably inevitable, but not particularly welcome. Hopefully Spruce doesn't end up owned by private equity. Then things could get really tense for GA...

    Bad aviation journalism thread

Some things never change. I recall a photo from the Orlando Sentinal (IIRC) from the early '80's, that showed a 172 that had screwed its prop into a hangar door. The caption mentioned that the pilot go out of the plane and left it in gear.

Commander N965BC Crashes in Icing Conditions 13 Apr 2024 in San Bernadino Mountains

Plane likely was, but the pilot clearly was not. We don't train people to fly in the ice, lest we fear they will. But frequently, as in this case, pilot's without the necessary skill set, ventured in anyway.

    Comanche 250 “Ruby”

If you go over to Sun 'n Fun, look for the Comanchetown tent over on the vintage parking area. They are also at Oshkosh. Two other internet resources for Comanches is the Piper Comanche FB group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/68675657216/) and the Airworthy Comanche Forum...

    Comanche 250 “Ruby”

I don't know where you are located, but off the top of my head, the shops I know that really know Comanches are Aircraft Engineering, Bartow, FL; Heritage Aero, Freeport, IL; Clifton Aero, Clifton, Tx; Webco Aircraft, Newton, KS; Phill-Air, Dover, DE, and Comanche Works (my team) in Blaine, MN...

    Comanche 250 “Ruby”

Pre-buys are necessary, but are a challenge, particularly when you are talking about vintage, complex aircraft. Savvy doesn't necessarily do a very good job with those either. Currently, they don't appear to have anyone that speaks very good Comanche, based on some of the logbook reviews from...

    Wealth Distribution in America

Without a middle class, democracy will die. Only the middle class really cares about democracy. The wealthy are safe even in a dictatorship. The truly poor are more focused on survival.

Do you think a bachelors degree will ever become necessary again to become a pilot at the airlines?

I have a BS from ERAU. Most of the credits came from having all my ratings already, and an A&P which was gained at ERAU. The rest of the degree was as it was titled, BS! But having been a product of the public school system at a time when they were experimenting with teacherless classes, I...
