    I’m calling the peak

Is it illegal to make dead people drink the water, though?

    Pilawt - Jeff Jacobs

What an amazing resource @Pilawt was. Definitely leaves a hole in the aviation community here. Great write-up @Rgbeard!

Lance air down short of 36 OSH

I don't think we have all of the facts, so it's a bit difficult to cast stones just yet. There may have been plenty of spacing to handle things just as it was being handled. If the Lancair was handling their business this would all be a moot point. I'm sure the accident chain will sort out most...

Lance air down short of 36 OSH

I'd think maybe you might want to walk back "not allowing" aircraft to make passes for photo ops and general viewing at an event which is specifically for those types of activities. Everything is relative, so most of the people attending Oshkosh could be considered "rich boys"; I'd be careful...

    Investing Thread?

I keep most of mine in an Fidelity S&P 500 index fund with low load/costs. I believe my 3 yr return on that fund has been close to 32% (obviously making back up ground since Covid), but historically has averaged about 13%. FXAIX has a 0.015% expense ratio, so it's pretty low cost of management...

Lance air down short of 36 OSH

I believe he was told to extend his pattern a bit to accommodate an L39 he was behind. I doubt that was too slow for him, but I'm sure it added another level of complexity that could have resulted in overshooting base-to-final and ended up getting slow in a banked turn.

Lance air down short of 36 OSH

I believe I saw where he had run himself out of fuel in an incident once before on Kathryn's Report. The Lancair ES isn't reportedly as bad as something like the IV/IV-P, but it's still slippery like a Cirrus so I'm sure it requires you to be on top of the speeds pretty closely.

Emergency battery pack for home refrigerator?

Yeah, although chaining it to something affixed to the ground may help eliminate some of that problem. The inverter generators do a pretty good job of staying quiet/low rpm until demand is actually called for. Saves on fuel and noise. My FIL gave us a 15,000 watt gasoline-powered generator...

Lance air down short of 36 OSH

Well, not that it bears repeating, but a Lancair is an aircraft known for biting hard if you let it get slow. Sad news.

Emergency battery pack for home refrigerator?

Just curious, what about letting the generator run overnight presents an issue for you? As long as you aren't putting it in a garage or other spot where carbon monoxide is a concern, what is the risk?

Emergency battery pack for home refrigerator?

Put the generator on a dolly and wheel it out to where you need it. Run an extension cord into the house through a window and just use a towel or some foam to seal the bottom of the window across the bottom where the cord passes through. No point in buying a 40lbs battery backup when you...

Helicopter flying low and close to house in a rural setting

Flying low and close to houses in a rural setting

But you know what an airplane sounds like, so "no idea what's rapidly/loudly approaching" seems a bit disingenuous. Same goes for hearing a muscle car or loud motorcycle screaming past your house (probably 80 feet away as well). I doubt you go tracking the car/motorcycle driver down because...

Helicopter flying low and close to house in a rural setting

Gotta genetically modify those crops somehow, may as well be by rotorcraft aerial application. ;)

Flying low and close to houses in a rural setting

Do keep in mind that this aircraft likely weighs around 1,000lbs, so about the same as a Harley Davidson cruiser/Honda Goldwing with a couple of riders on it. No one is likely to become a crater if he hits a house/car/tree. As to the noise, how often is the pilot coming by in a each given instance?
