    Seattle Avionics

Thought experiment. If Apple never invented the iPad and Foreflight or Garmin or some other aviation company came out with the exact same product, hand held navigation device, that can also run apps, would all the Apple haters think it was bad?

How do perform short field landings for practical test

The specified point is where you say wheels are going to touch. You can't be short of that point and you can't be more than 200 feet past it. Pretty simple.

How do perform short field landings for practical test

Because the ACS has no specification for float. Honestly, it's more of a target landing exercise than a true short field.

Logging cross country +50NM between Depart Dest Airports FLYING Non Direct Route

Here's the relevant part from the letter RussR posted "As noted above, cross-country flight time is defined as time acquired during a flight that includes a point of landing that is at least a straight-line distance of more than 50 nm from the original point of departure, not the original point...

Logging cross country +50NM between Depart Dest Airports FLYING Non Direct Route

What about a triangle, 50nm, 30 and 30? Are you saying that's only one XC between the 50nm pair? Why then vs the other example. Cite a reference Because? Huh? Thanks for allowing all of us to do that. P.S. Spell check is your friend PPS, you might also check how many ratings you have, seems...

Holy Necropost! 2012, 2018, today. Still on the edge of my seat for the final answer.

    Custom Checklist

Ironically that checklist for my plane ('73 PA28) is a fraction of the size of the "Checkmate" checklist for the same plane. If I were to just copy those, it would fit on a 3x5 card (excluding the emergency stuff, which might need a second card). The point many are making is the approved...

Which single line checklist items, when missed, could lead to a crash?

Yes, I read the entire article. The pilot announced an emergency landing to an runway that did not exist. Then stalled and spun in. No ASI in most GA planes, including an SR22 should not be that much of an emergency. Just fly the freaking plane. Do a lap in the pattern and land. Declare if the...

How do perform short field landings for practical test

Here's the relevant part of the ACS PA.IV.F.S5 Select and aim for a suitable touchdown point considering the wind, landing surface, and obstructions. PA.IV.F.S6 Establish the recommended approach and landing configuration and airspeed, and adjust pitch attitude and power as required to maintain...

Which single line checklist items, when missed, could lead to a crash?

Seriously? Assuming VFR conditions, that seems a bit over the top.

Scary High Oil Temps - Lycoming 540

I'll disagree with those suggesting your plan for a new engine monitor is flawed. However, I would make sure the install is more than just a replacement. For example, make sure all the wiring harnesses are new end to end, all grounds are checked and cleaned and old wiring related to the...

    Garmin Data Card

Not what I said. While it's strictly not compliant with the STC, a non-Garmin card will work just fine in a non-xi GTN. Yes it needs to stay in the unit, but there's no secret code in the card that says it's TSO or not. Just the sticker.

    Runup area to runway priority?

Why not ask what they want you to do when you get your clearance? At my "D", I just roll up to the runway and call tower. I know at other airports expectations are different.

Departing VFR after telephoning for an IFR clearance

I would not do this. I'd either make a second call when #1 at the runway or not call at all and pick up clearance in the air. A lot would depend on the airspace I was entering. If approach is going to be busy, like NYC area, I'd call for clearance then call for release. In the middle of nowhere...

Departing VFR after telephoning for an IFR clearance

Get your clearance. Taxi to the runway, call back and say #1 on runway X. If you can call for the clearance, what's the big deal to make a second call?

    Garmin Data Card

You don't - Your 1 "official" card will come with the GTN. The one from Amazon also works. Garmin claims your wings will fall off if it's not a Certified card. The xi series have given up on that fallacy, the pre xi stuff works fine with any FAT32 card also.

For Sale SOLD - iPad Mini 4 - 128G, WiFi only

I upgraded to a 6. My 4 has the most storage possible for the 4, no GPS due to wifi only. Been running Garmin Pilot and it works well for that, but map refresh is a bit slow compared to the 6. Approach plates and flight plan stuff works great. Will include a Ram holder, that holds the iPad...
