Is Broken at 1300 considered VFR?

Agreed. But that's why I thought the lessons video might be older than this past year.

Foreflight slow on iPad mini6. Anyone else seeing this?

I am seeing no problems on my Mini 6. In addition to suggestions about reboots, etc, consider swiping up from the bottom and closing background apps. Yeah, I know, Apple aficionados will insist iOS and ipadOS do such a marvelous job of allocating memory, it cannot possibly be an issue (which is...

Is Broken at 1300 considered VFR?

The phone number is in the Chart Supplement. Sure, if all else fails, or it’s an emergency, or you never learned how to use a cell phone in an airplane, there’s flight service. But I was surprised to see it as a 1st line method. From the ground. Besides, if training a VFR pilot to actually use...

    TR182 vs Turbo Normalized 177R

I’ve flown both. Out of KAPA. The issue with the 177 and high D-Alt departures is real. Great cruiser but not departure.the turbo might help with that, but I have trouble picturing it meeting the 160+ speed of the TR182.

Is Broken at 1300 considered VFR?

Pretty good explanation, but I disagree with one item. When he talks about getting a SVFR clearance from the ground to depart a nontowered airport, he says to contact Flight Service. I would not. I would call the same TRACON number that I would call for an IFR clearance for the exact same reason...

VFR flight plans. Do you file them?

    Exactly.

VFR flight plans. Do you file them?

Back in the days before flight tracking, it was a way of keeping track of a student's solo cross country. I think the idea originated with mountain flights, but the process involves calling Flight Service on the radio to update position periodically.

GNS430W and 530W - Failing to suspend when in a hold... how to fix the result

An easier way is to tap the exact same button that suspended automatic sequencing and allowed you to fly the hold multiple times. Yes, a whole bunch of other stuff will accomplish the same with more button than one. But since we learned that the OBS button is used to suspend automatic...

GNS430W and 530W - Failing to suspend when in a hold... how to fix the result

Can you explain why? I might have missed something in the thread. Unless you have hit OBS to suspend sequencing, with any of the methods discussed, once inbound it will automatically sequence to the next leg. And if you did hit OBS to remain in the hold for several turns, just tap it again to...

VFR flight plans. Do you file them?

I’m with you on this. I only fly out of 5000’ and longer paved runways. So I figure that while there’s a place for short and soft field techniques, I personally never use them so I don’t bother teaching them. Very unfair when those nasty DPEs fail them!!:mad: (Strangest part of your...

Thanks. I never knew that. Now I need to "accidentally" :D swap cards between our two club airplanes and see what happens.

GRYDER WINS - $1.2M Defamation Case Reversed

Appellate decision can be read here. Not quite a “WIN.” Basic procedural issue. The appellate court determined he wasn’t properly served so the default judgment against him was improper. Now the case goes back to the trial court where it proceeds normally*. (* to the extent anything...

    New PPL

I don’t know the area but I would be looking for places within a reasonable distance where there is something interesting to do, whether food or fun. Or just a visit. I have a friend who earned his private last December. In addition to taking trips with his son (he owns an LSA), he gave a...

    ACS Standards Question

Where does the CFI ACS say that? I can’t find it. And I don’t understand what you are asking. To me “[clear 50' obstacle, +100', - 0']” (If that’s what it says) means you have to clear the obstacle by at least zero feet (or you will hit it) and by no more that 100’ (or you will not be...

Rant: Exercising PIC, no not that PIC

"Nice guy" sounds like a bad reason but it's kind of human nature to put the gloss on. Like others, if the repeating fuel pump breaker tripping didn't do it, that combined with the avgas smell, would have been the last straw. And if I was instructing them, all "nice guy" would get them is that I...

    SID question

It will take a while for procedures like the DRONE STAR to get updated to drop over 17,000 feet :D (STAR superimposed over enroute chart). The thing though is, ATC regularly clears light pistons onto this STAR at low altitudes (I probably was assigned it at 3000 or 5000), it hardly seems the...

    SID question

Yep. Problem is that the SID STAR legend still identifies them as "MEA" which only has one official definition. even though they are definitely not the minimum altitude which will ensure obstacle clearance and nav signal. (The ones you circled above are mandatory altitudes for climb via clearances.)
