“BM” definitely meant something from the other end when I was a kid in Brooklyn.

What does Chevron have to do with the language that came from Congress? I haven't looked at that thread but It has said "authorized" since the original legislation in 2016. Now, suddenly, it's a problem? Or just a solution in search of a problem? I suspect the original "authorized" language...

GFC-500 is a GPS only Autopilot

I should not be a surprise. When I work with someone after a new avionics installation, I ask the pilot to read through the AFMS. It's not about a quiz. You want to incorporate any new procedures into your checklists - the FAA has a good video about the importance of doing that. And while there...

Pretty sure you are correct about the change from 6 to 7. The FAA's existing BasicMed FAQ has an extensive discussion of the PA32 issue.

The requirement is up to 18 years at this point and "elongates" every year. I understand the desire to remove the prior FAA medical requirement entirely, but I'm not sure what "elongate" does as a whole (as opposed to the few folks captured by the extension).

Purchasing a plane in an LLC / buy LLC?

Depends on the contract. If the contract is with the LLC with no restrictive language, nothing has changed. The “person” who rented the hangar is XYZ LLC, not a member or members. OTOH, if the contract has a provision which, for example, requires lessor consent if the membership of the LLC...

Purchasing a plane in an LLC / buy LLC?

Other than fees, etc, the downside to buying an LLC is that you acquire the LLC's debts, even unknown ones. There's a reason corporate business acquisitions are often asset purchases rather than company purchases. A lawyer will walk you through that.

    Streamlining my FAA Wing curriculum

@Sierra_Hotel gave the answer. Personally, the only time I worry about verifying ground activities is when we use one of the very few flight activities which require me to verify them. I think there are only one or two of those. Even when I do verify them, it's not with the "checklist." I use...

    Upgrading my Bristell w GPS175 and G5

Question - has the Bristell gained approval for flight in the clouds or do you always need to remain in VMC?

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

Not at my age :D Heck I was even online discussing it,

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

It was before a major Part 61 rewrite that went into effect mid-1997. One flight of at least 300 nautical miles with landings at a minimum of three points, one of which is at least 100 nautical miles from the original departure point. if you think that sounds a bit like the commercial cross...

How to enter a holding pattern?

Yep. The convolution and complexity is the fault of formal ground schools and CFIs, not DPEs.

Airport base between Orlando and Tampa?

Kind of depends where between the two you want to be. I’ve used ZPH when visiting friends around Tampa and parked there for a visit to Sun n Fun. Nice airport but subject to the same issues with the skydiving mix we see with LHZ in our area.

That's it I am getting my clearances on the ground

That was always the problem even when calling FSS was the only “official” option. Once I realized the limitations and the alternative, I started asking ATC when inbound for a number to reach them directly for my outbound clearance.

That's it I am getting my clearances on the ground

With the publishing of CD phone numbers several years ago now, Flight Service pretty much left the clearance middleman business. Even that old 800 national CD number is defunct. But it’s not necessary to call FSS. They’d probably just give you the phone number from the A/FD. Here’s the entry...

That's it I am getting my clearances on the ground

If there is saturation your release can be delayed in the air also. “Unable to issue your clearance due to saturation. Maintain VFR and say intentions.” I think it was YouTuber Baron Pilot who has a video where he tries the VFR departure to avoid delay strategy and was halfway to the...

That's it I am getting my clearances on the ground

Another good reason is a local change to your flight plan, especially in an unfamiliar area. During the busy departure phase is not the best time to deal with a full route clearance even if it’s not busy. If no phone number or available frequency, the TRACON number from another airport using...
