    PIREP--- SPORTY'S PJ2 Radio

Mine shorted out and melted part of the battery pack. It was a PJ2, not the slightly newer PJ2+ They did redesign the pack after a number of these incidents. Sporty's was kind enough to let me buy a new pack at full retail.

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

Another day, another cook. We're prepping for a cross-country move late this month (I should probably post about that), and I've got a chest freezer full of meat to use up. Prime rib today! The rub was a paste I made using a Memphis rib dry rub as the base, with a lot of minced garlic, minced...

    34, feeling lost, lonely

That sounds a lot like me. But as has been pointed out already in the thread, there are others who share your hobbies and passions. Find them! Join clubs, look for online communities with local members, seek out meet-ups, or organize something yourself. Making new friends requires some...

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

I did a simple cook tonight--butterflied a 2.5 lb pork loin, dusted with a homemade rub inside and out, and spread apple pie filling inside. Closed it up and covered it in a bacon wrap. I cooked it for 3 hours at 225F, using hickory for the smoke wood, sauced it with warm Blues Hog during the...

    For Memorial Day

I'm grateful to all of the vets, and particularly thankful that my dad made it home after spending much of WWII in the Pacific theater. Ditto for my uncle, who fought in the European theater.

    Blue Angels IMAX

I was planning to see it at the local IMAX-lite theater this week. Happy to see the news here that it just turned up on Amazon Prime free...saved me $16 I enjoyed it; I agree with other comments here; I'd have liked to see more in-flight shots, and longer flying sequences. My non-pilot wife...

    California and Lead

Interesting...did he mention the source of the bromine? It's rare enough that it doesn't just show up most places. Sea water, salt water plants, and salts precipitated from sea water are the usual sources. Is there a brominated additive in engine oil, perhaps? I'm geeking out on the...

    I Hate Enterprise

It wasn't a Nissan, but the worst rental I ever had was some minivan we'd been upgraded to against our will, when we had reserved something much more fuel efficient. Someone here is bound to recognize the make/model; I've apparently blotted it from my memory. It had a rotary dial on the dash...

    What's For Dinner?

Osso buco and a polenta/parmesan/tomato bake. I'd never even had osso buco in a restaurant before, but I won the meat in a BBQ comp, so I spent a few hours cooking it up today. Recipes from the internet, so I can't claim credit for innovation.
