I hear you, it has become a literal arms race and danged expensive as a result, but only open sights are allowed. No optics, no magnification allowed on the guns in any of the Olympic shooting events.
That was exactly my journey. I shot on a pretty good varsity rifle team in college. Three-position free rifle. All the hot and heavy gear, pretty much the guy in the 'nosewheel pilots' side of the meme above. I was working towards a slot on the national team, but upon graduation I decided...
A little off topic, but a great grilled hot dog variation I hit on is to line the bun with fresh cilantro, add the dog, and top with siracha sauce. For a little added heat throw on some pickled Serrano pepper slices. They’re very easy to make

Thanks for this. I'd read here of the tragic Cardinal crash, didn't realize it was a club plane. I wasn't aware of the Air Coeur crash. I'll certainly be poking around the airport schools as soon as I get settled in there.
Thanks! I'll look into those. Felts field is a 30-40 minute drive from where we'll be, so it's doable if Air Coeur doesn't work out.
I've been a flying club member all these years, so I'm selling back my (small) equity share in the club aircraft. Unfortunately not something that will get me...
