    So today, there I was.....

Wow. Add that one to the list of “How on earth did they get their hands on that?”

    Flightaware security breach

Yes, but if you can get ahold of the encrypted file, there is a good chance many could be cracked, depending on how strong an encryption algorithm was used in the first place

    UPS rant

I finally got around to challenging the charge, figuring the best they might do for me was refund the difference between the overnight service I paid for, and the two-day service they delivered...the latter forced us to push back our home closing by a day, and ****ed off a lot of people...

    Aviators who are not pilots

My job in Pharma required that I submit to the FDA inspectors a copy of the diploma for my highest graduate degree, part of their mandate to insure that everyone working in a regulated area had the academic credentials they said they did. I'm not sure why they didn't just contact the...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

They plan to deorbit the ISS in 2030, so I figure they'll be home by then.

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

I haven't posted a cook in a while, mostly because we were moving and I wasn't able to smoke anything in a while. I finally broke the drought on Saturday, after first spending way too much time trying to get my WSM cooker bent back into a round shape, after NorthAmerican Moving Services...

    UPS rant

I just counted mine. 20 doors! Do I win? Yep, 20 doors total in the 5 homes I’ve owned in my lifetime.

Voepass Flight 2283, a large passenger plane, crashes in Vinhedo, Brazil

I've no experience flying anything that big, but I suspect any transport-category aircraft can get into a non-recoverable situation of some sort or other. Whatever the aircraft, you are trusting the pilots to keep the aircraft within the envelope. It almost always works.

Buy Me Some Peanuts And Cracker Jacks

I’m picturing passing your card down the row through six pairs of hands, it gets scanned, passed back through six pairs of hands, and then the vendor throws you your bag of peanuts.

    UPS rant

I’ve had a lot of stuff notarized in the last decade, almost half of it just in the last year. No one has ever asked for a thumbprint, just the photo ID. I did read an online review for a local bank where a customer was all bent out of shape because they wouldn’t notarize at the drive-through...

    UPS rant

As I've posted here previously, we recently moved to Idaho (yay!). Our old house in NJ is about to sell (yay!). It's a remote closing, so the attorney in NJ sent us the documents to sign using UPS Overnight, which took two days. After signing and notarization, I took them to our local UPS...

Driving to work today through the outer bands of the hurricane when something occurred to me

I used weather radar and cloud cover maps extensively in the car last year while frantically driving halfway across NY state trying to get to clear skies to view the eclipse. We weren't successful, but had there been a bit less overcast, it would have made the difference. I know, kind of an...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Don't overlook Olympic trap and skeet. The Olympics used to have moving target rifle events. First a running deer event, shot with center-fire rifles on moving paper targets at 100 meters. That took a lot of room, so it was replaced after the 1956 games with a running boar event, also using...
