    Who can do Rigging?

I rigged my Decathlon when I restored it last year. The factory service manual lays out the procedures. Flies great now. I had to gin up a simple tool to measure control surface angles. Only must-have tool was a cable tensiometer. Single engine airframes are built with a couple degrees of...

Where would you move for basic aerobatic training?

Get an intro flight to acro before you make a life decision. A lot of people like the idea of acro, but find the physical experience less enjoyable. There are good instructors all over the country. You probably don't need to move anywhere. But if you're looking for a reason, St Augustine...

CENTCOM CC gots some splainin' to do

I went to West Point with Erik Kurilla, and played on the Rugby team with him there. I also went thru Infantry Officer Course and Ranger School with him. I knew him fairly well. He has a Patton persona. Big brass ones, large and in charge of any situation; forceful and direct. He's one of...

    Zombie F-35 Mishap Report Out...

With respect, shouldn't a night ILS landing be a fairly routine operation by the time a military pilot gets to that point in the pipeline?

    Metal in the oil filter

Prediction: you'll get about 200 more hours out of it before needing an overhaul.

    Lilium Runs Out of Money

Giant swinging rotor blades of death. Helo crashes can go very wrong. Electric power allows multiple smaller rotors housed in protective fairings.

Woman Backs Into Propeller, Kansas, fatal, 10/27

Blame is often essential to the learning experience. Almost all accidents involve failures of responsibility. Those failures must be identified to draw the correct conclusions about how to prevent repeat occurrences.

First Tailwheel flight + Back to Basics with POA Pilot

Great thread! Grass fields are the natural habitat of the taildragger. Soaks up a lot of little lateral excursions.

Chuck Coleman Crash - Las Cruces

Agreed, though he cribbed the best part from someone else. The side-by-side video was illuminating.

Looking for info on less lethal/non lethal self defense products

I did not use the word "accident". The majority of successful suicides are by gun. 90% of suicide attempts by gun are successful, vs 10% of other methods. Before introducing guns into your home, be aware of this. Anyone with access to that gun can kill themselves in 5-10 seconds. That is...

Looking for info on less lethal/non lethal self defense products

I have never met anyone who shot an assailant. Off the top of my head, I can name 10 people who shot themselves or had a family member do so. I met 3 of them just in the past week.

    Fluctuating altimeter on takeoff

Where are the static ports located? If one is on the left side of the fuselage aft of midship, it's going to get a slap of propwash when power is applied while stationary.

touch up paint in spray can

https://www.amazon.com/ABN-Engine-Cleaning-Siphon-Spray/dp/B07F9YFFCG Just drop the tube in a jug of spirits and hose away. Gets all the oil and grime out of every nook and cranny in the engine compartment. Really helps to detect oil seepage before it becomes a more significant leak.

What's the action if weather closes in on a low level terrain following route like that? Pop up and go IFR?

touch up paint in spray can

Yep, buying an air compressor is a major step down the path from plane owner to DIY guy. My favorite use is spray washing the engine with mineral spirits, which I do at every oil change.

Chuck Coleman Crash - Las Cruces

At first glance, looks like a Lomcovak that tumbled a bit too long. I've never flown that maneuver, but I know even the top acro pilots treat them with respect.

touch up paint in spray can

Get a touch up gun from Harbor Freight and borrow an air compressor. Then you can use 2K paint and proper primer.
