    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

I’d bet it gets fully restored.

How many hours of dual given at this point?

    CFI Responsibility

I fly a Luscombe as an instructor. If you feel comfortable, shoot me a DM.

    CFI Responsibility

The CFI probably has some liability, but there are situations where there's what's legally true, and possibly not morally true. I can and do provide tailwheel instruction, and there are times when a CFI can communicate very clearly and accurately what is to be accomplished, and the student can...

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

I challenge y'all to remember how many other dumb things our society tolerates that are far worse than a pilot who thinks he's on a mission from God to keep other pilots from making dumb mistakes. I can think of some far crazier 501(c)3s.

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

There could be more than one reason for that, including aerodynamic tendencies, just saying… it’s not a lock that it’s a maintenance / airworthiness deal.

    Mid ‘70s homebuilt?

There are enough designs out there to fill a book!

Is it safe to fly on a Boeing 737-Max?

Nothing's perfectly safe. That said, your odds in a Southwest Max 8 are better than your odds driving there, so live your life.

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

Mechanical stuff can and does happen. Had a brake shatter and lock up on me last year in my Luscombe. Not much you can do about those things except for preventative maintenance, and even that's not 100%.

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

I'd guess that the plane will probably fly again if restored, if it had been left or right it might've been more likely to have destroyed the spar. That really stinks. Having seen a fatal accident with one survivor, I don’t wish that for anyone.

    Van's RV-6A Down, MA

How does that change anything? Is it less likely to flip on a wheel landing???

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

It sounds from the caption on this that DG was at least a little familiar with the plane.

    engine out, reducing drag

One little thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet can make a big deal - flying coordinated will also ensure you get your maximum glide performance, just like a good hard slip can help if you find yourself a little high on a short field in a real emergency. Knowing how to slip can also help if you...

Scary High Oil Temps - Lycoming 540

In addition to the other good suggestions here, I'd suggest that you have the mechanic give the oil cooler a good flush. You'd be surprised how much sludge can build up in an oil cooler over time.

How important is switching to Apple OS?

It's six of one, half dozen of the other at the end of the day, unless you are going the de-Googled route. It's a matter of pick your data aggregator / corporation of choice, and personally I don't see that Google is particularly more centrist than Apple. I currently use the device that is most...

    The Cole slaw thing…..

If you grow up around people of German immigrant heritage (like New Braunfels and Fredericksburg in Texas) coleslaw has always been part of the diet. I can’t remember ever disliking it.

It's possible that the boat, being to the right, had the right of way.

    34, feeling lost, lonely

Google where this comes from: At the end of the day, we are designed to play a role in a story bigger than our own personal run. If we only live to satisfy ourselves, we will actually lose everything in the end.
