    Basic Med - SI

Often times when there was confusion about the SI or someone who had gone BasicMed, it was because a "helpful" cardiologist or other medical provider took it upon themselves to send in a report to AMCD, thus re-opening their medical application. Stories of accidental withdrawn SIs seemed to be...

    Basic Med - SI

To be fair, no one is trying to trick anyone. Status update letters are sent to remind SI holders to submit updates in a timely fashion. AMCD has no way of knowing whether you intend to keep your medical certificate or transition to BasicMed.

    MOSAIC Update

Let's just say that the FAA hangar will be surrounded by torches and pitchforks if it's not out by Airventure 2025, so that would be a good guess.

What age is appropriate to start flight lessons?

Wow, I could have written that. My son is 9, he attended Oshkosh for the first time with my dad too (I was working the whole week at OSH so he needed someone to come up with him and wander with him while I was busy), and he wants to attend the USAFA so he can fly transport category jets. We fly...

PPR 24 hrs for unsked acft ops

lol, I quickly scanned your post and missed the note that this was your first solo XC. Still, good on ya for asking the question.

PPR 24 hrs for unsked acft ops

This is most certainly the meaning of the note. Scheduled/unscheduled refers to air carrier operations (ie part 135/121) that require a part 139 compliant airport with operational ARFF services. Since you don’t require such services, you’re good. I agree the note is poorly written. Kudos to...

First class medical with two DUI’s

Based on your history, there is a strong presumption of substance dependence. The attached will give you an idea of what the FAA needs from you to go down the special issuance path. https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide/media/FAA_Certification_Aid_DA_Initial.pdf

Twin Ownership - Year 1 The ups and downs

I'm not Lance but he mentioned earlier in the thread he uses S&S Aviation at Cherokee Co. airport (CNI). Of course this thread is 6 years old so perhaps he's using someone else. I'm sure he'll pop in to comment.

Bar Harbor ME Island Explorer Shuttle

I’ve looked into it in the past, but no first hand knowledge. There was a comment on ForeFlight from 2 years ago mentioning the explorer, but oddly very little mentioned from pilots; seems most either rent a car or use the crew car.

    BFR and Part 107 UAS

No. See 14 CFR 61.56(d). Adding to your pilot certificate resets the flight review clock. A remote pilot certificate under part 107 is not a pilot certificate under part 61. This is clarified in 14 CFR 61.8.

Splitting Multi Engine Time and Logging

^This. Recently airlines are looking for the required minimum hours and a pulse. They're not going to ask much since they're desperate for candidates. Should that change in the future, the airlines might want to know more about that time in your logbook and that safety pilot time might not be...

private pilot license foreign based issue

Only if it suffices for the NZ CAA, which is a NZ thing, not an FAA thing. Alternatively, he could obtain a US student pilot certificate and pursue a U.S. based private pilot certificate by passing the PP knowledge test and practical test.

    DPE PPL price

There’s a couple issues going on right now. It’s California circa 1849 and everyone is chasing the big money from the pilot shortage. DPEs that can hold a medical and meet age requirements are going 121; the older ones are backfilling in 135 ops with more work than they know what to do with. FAA...

    Anyone Fly RC Planes?

My son just left his first AirVenture with an RC plane. Even though I’ve been flying 1:1 scale for the past 30 years, I’ve always held a degree of fascination with RC airplanes. As a matter fact, when I was in 6th or 7th grade I tried building a Carl Goldberg Eagle 63. I sort of hit a wall...

It’s actually a plethora of MOAs and Restricted areas. Lots of F-18, F-35, AV8B, and V-22 traffic…and other stuff too.

    Kitty Hawk. KFFC

Yep, Cherry Point will send you on through them if they’re cold and let you know if they’re hot. It’s a nice flight along the coast so no real good reason to go direct other than to save some time. I’m down in Frisco much of the summer at Billy Mitchell (HSE) and short of Lee Pilot82 above, I’ve...
