Special Issuance Requirements - Utterly Confused

You can transition to BasicMed once your medical certificate expires. Until then, you’d need to comply with the requirements of the SI. Note that a medical certificate issued under an SI is typically limited to a year or less.

Special Issuance Requirements - Utterly Confused

You are correct that medical certificates issued with an SI have a specific expiration date, however you don’t need to re-apply for a medical certificate and submit to an examination each time in order to extend the medical certificate. If you’re under age 40 at time of exam, your exam is still...

Special Issuance Requirements - Utterly Confused

If the SI authorization has expired, it would be as though you started from scratch. That said, you know what they need from the last SI, so you should be able to walk into the AME’s office and be able to provide all of the information necessary to re-issue the SI.

Special Issuance Requirements - Utterly Confused

Sounds like the OP was under 40 at the time of the original exam. Thus the next exam with an AME is November 2027. (See note above: "A physical examination (FAA Form 8500- 8 ) by a designated AME will be required at the frequency prescribed under the provisions of 14 CFR § 61.23 . Your next...

    Balloon Ride in NM, recommendations?

Greetings y’all! Taking the wife and son for a mini vacation to New Mexico the first 5 days of November. I was thinking about squeezing in a balloon ride on the second or last day. I know there a few major ride operators (Rainbow Ryders) with large capacity baskets, but was hoping to do smaller...

What is "geomagnetic center" SE of KEZF on sectional

So you’re saying my compass won’t go all flying over this location? I’ve flown over that area a billion times and never noticed this landmark on the chart. That said I’m pretty familiar with the area so I don’t need a random government building to orient myself, lol.

What plane would you buy in my situation?

Before I opened this thread I mouthed the words "one eighty two". The OP's message confirmed it. It will be the easiest transition. The lowest insurance, easiest to buy, easiest to maintain, and if the desire for something bigger/faster/whatever happens, it will be easier to sell. Get a P or...

Flying north through Ewr and NY airspace…

I agree with others that VFR right overtop seems the best. I've never had a problem getting flight following, particularly if my route is taking me directly overhead. Avoid planning a flight that will take you directly overhead and aligned with the runways in use however; you will become a...

    Annual Inspection vs. 100-Hour Inspection

See 14 CFR 91.409(b). “Except as provided in paragraph (c) of this section, no person may operate an aircraft carrying any person (other than a crewmember) for hire, and no person may give flight instruction for hire in an aircraft which that person provides, unless within the preceding 100...

FAA Drops Expiration Date from CFI

That's news to me. Besides, if they're not actually doing any instruction, what's the safety issue? The bigger issue is the quality of recurrent training. For many, flight reviews are incredibly lacking.

    Part Time CFI

Flight schools need CFIs when customers want to fly. For schools that cater to recreational students with full time jobs, your schedule will work just fine. Busy 141 collegiate programs might not be so flexible. You’ll just have to ask to find out. Plenty of folks are CFIs with full time office...

C-182 Power and Flap Setting For Standard 90kts Final (3deg/450fps) Approach

I can make a good argument for 10 degrees of flaps. The first notch of flaps doesn't hurt your climb performance in the event of a go around, but also sets you up for a good landing configuration in the event of a continued landing. It brings the nose down a bit more than no flaps, so your sight...

    Basic Med - SI

No doubt. While there was a certain degree of handwringing when BasicMed came around in certain aerospace medicine circles, FAA aeromedical is probably very have to not have to crunch through an additional 50,000 SI-likely airman right now.
