WingX database download 6/15 (2306) available?

Not sure what's normal - I only update before I go fly, which is unfortunately rarely enough that typically an update is always required.

Final Report: MYF Falcon 900 mishap

Back in my corporate days, there was a pretty well known Challenger operator whose owner would reposition the airplanes on his own - no type, just him. Lots of trash out there in the 135 ranks, but that was definitely the worst I've seen.

Can we descend below DA on the go around due to coupled height loss ?

We had a few provisions for a long time as well, but a couple of years ago they were removed and now all charted MDAs require the additional 50 feet. Not sure what happened.

Advice for flying to Los Angeles

Don't take the light rail - unlike other cities nobody takes public transportation in socal unless there are NO other options. Lunch at Waypoint Cafe is great. Get the tri-tip special if it's available.

Advice for flying to Los Angeles

CMA has the Waypoint Cafe, which has been a bit of an institution in the region for as long as I've been flying.

Advice for flying to Los Angeles

Santa Monica. It's closing in 2028, so I think it'd be a cool airport to have in your logbook. Oh, and props forward early, coupled with a high drag, high power approach. ;)

Can we descend below DA on the go around due to coupled height loss ?

Most of the commercial world has gone away from 'diving and driving' on non-precision approaches, so the typical procedure is to add 50 feet to any MDA and call that our Derived Decision Altitude, or DDA. As the name implies we treat the DDA as a decision altitude, and the 50 feet gives us some...

Southwest pilot gets locked out of cockpit, climbs through window before flight

Yep. "I'm gonna go get a coffee. Let me know when you restore access to the flight deck."

    FAA Caused Flight Delays

Those are all improvements that are visible to the eye. Much harder to convince folks to spend money on infrastructure they can't see.

    Corporate pilot life

Yeah, corporate flying runs a wide gamut. I jumped to 121 because I got impatient for the great 91 gig, but had I found one I would have stuck around. The lack of a firm schedule is what eventually pushed me out, but otherwise I really loved the flying. Some of it is simply timing - the industry...

Best Insurance Carrier (Underwriter) for Senior Pilots?

    How about insurance in blackjack?

Best Insurance Carrier (Underwriter) for Senior Pilots?

Not to step into the ****ing match, but is it the liability that's hard to get at an advanced age, or just the hull? The comment about retracts implies that the issue is insuring the hull, and I can absolutely see skipping that side of it altogether and carrying just liability.

Are our little airplane window causing skin cancer?

We can definitely bid and trade trips to focus flying to specific regions - for example it's easy for me to only fly to South America - but that limits some of the advantages of doing the widebody flying to begin with. Most pilots that are genuinely concerned about the radiation would just bid...
