    Egregious FBO charges

2 hours driving time saves nearly $195 dollars an hour. Not a bad hourly rate, for most of us. Plus, you are now at the half price fuel airport. Win Win, it seems to me.

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

Counterfeit parts? That has been a problem lately for high strength hardware.

Best Laid plans oft go astray (wx planning)

Good decision. Weather worse than predicted can snowball on you. A plane new to you with known electrical; problems is not the platform to do IFR in with a destination and passenger. Sort the issues out at annual, do some IFR practice with a high ceiling at the home airport until comfortable...

California is a governor's signature away from banning 100LL in 2031

The Cal. gov. burns Jet A, the airlines burn Jet A, the rich people burn Jet A. The rest of us just need to upgrade a bit.

    Training Crash

My view of the video of the landing was that the plane did in fact touch down on the runway, very hard, not on the grass short of the runway. The stall warning should have been blaring well before the CFI took control of the plane, and should have been immediately responded to with enough power...

    Test your Taste

At first I thought that was pineapple upside down cake, without the cherries in the middle of the pineapple. You must be nuts. Then realized it is pizza, with way too much pineapple, way too big pieces, and no salty country ham bits scattered all over it. Second rate stuff, slapped together...

Why does POA call it a PPL, when it is a Certificate?

Today I read a real estate form with a line for the professional doing the document to enter their (LICENCE, CERTIFICATE, PERMIT, REGISTRATION) and their name. For the document, all those terms are synonymous. Precise language, one meaning for a word in contracts, seems to be gone.

Wing walking thrill rides shut down, pilot/operator loses license

12 accident free years is more pertinent to the issue here. With adult customers willing to take the risk, why not? I would not have been interested in such a ride, at any age, but I do not ride motor cycles either, since abut 30 years old. Never seriously considered parachute jumping or...

How much ethanol is too much

We have not considered the penalty for staying on the island with the bad gas and cannibals'. I am assuming that it is a little like the crew on the ISS, and the choice is either leave now with the gas available, or stuck for a long time. Cost of repair not an issue, parts available at the...

    Airline Exit Rows

A couple of years ago, I had a chat with a guy that drove a tank onto the beach at Normandy. He lied about his age, he was 16 when he went in. He needed help getting his shirt tucked in neatly before he left the rest room at the American Legion. He did not have a walker or cane, had a sharp...

How much ethanol is too much

The suggested aircraft is a C 182. They burn about 12 GPH at cruise. It will take 13 hours to burn all the mixed fuel in the tanks. Take off immediately, and you you get off the bad island, land at the good island, and purge the system at the airport. Fresh, good gas, and the deterioration...

Is there a pilots emergency landing phone app!

Every time that I had an inflight emergency, I had a radio tuned to a local ATC facility. I never set 7700, as there was no need, but if I had no com radio ready to go, that would have been my choice, nice to have the radar painting you as unique. ATC has always vectored me to the place that I...

    N/A Winekeeping

In Italy, the bars and restaurants bought their house wines in 50 liter "Florence flasks", put the special valves in and set on the back shelf in a neck dowsn position. They drew you a glass of wine in much the same manner as a glass of beer. Similar to beer, the valves were provided by the...

    ELT frequencies

No system is failure free, but the most failure free is the system we should be using. I have called ATC to report locater beacon received on guard, and they replied "That beacon is confirmed on an airport, thank you for monitoring guard".

    N/A Winekeeping

Both of my sons use the special plugs and vacuum pump. Happy with them for over many years. Daughter in law likes box wines for her small glass at lunch. I have had a glass with her, and found it quite good, but understand the ambiance of pouring from the bottle at the table, and a choice of...

    Grounded for not talking

Good choice on staying on the ground, but for the future, have the land line phone numbers written down for the appropriate airports and use the cell phone. That is todays option. Not a bad idea for a regular preflight preparation, in case the electronics go bad in flight, that has happened to...

    Aluminum air tanks

Our club has a large "dock box", with the pressure tank in it. We fill it as needed at a gas station. It has a latch on connector, and guage after the tank valve. Connect, crack the valve, and shut off as soon as desire pressure is reached. Airplane tires are so small that a completely flat...

VFR in the mountains - Part II

Are you sure you got all the facts straight without referencing your logbook, plus flight plan and in flight scribble sheets? The old flight plans and attached scribble sheets irritate my wife, but the are in chronological order. I reference them when describing how I dealt with scenarios such...
