Tape over or plug those holes with rags to keep insects and other undesirables out. Even wind blown dirt.

    Houston: Robinson R44 helo down

Judging distance for an object straight ahead is not essential when you are flying. Just turn immediately, and then figure out if the turn is sharp enough. I think the pilot was distracted by pointing out special places, and had no look ahead. Easy to do sightseeing. Reminds me of a...

    Houston: Robinson R44 helo down

Generally, tower lights are two separate circuits, preferably from separate sources. The beacon at the top seems to have been working in a normal manner. The side lights were not on, and that is the NOTAM issue. They hit the tower not much below the top beacon, two flashes clearly seen...

FFS. I need a new hobby.

I have set set screws on many shafts, both with holes and without. This appears to be a case of missing the hole, but setting the screw and staking it. If so, pounding the cap to stake the screw threads would tend to hammer the end of the set screw against the shaft, tending to decrease the...

Looking for info on less lethal/non lethal self defense products

Maulskinner, your families issues are such that the person causing the risk can cause an over aggressive response, and great cost to your family. Bear spray at short range can cause permanent eye injury, and it is near impossible to prove that no injury has occurred, resulting in huge financial...

20' long, 100mph drone fleet; weeks; over Langley, Norfolk Dec2023

Geezer's suggestion of marines in helicopters with shotguns makes a lot more sense, but we don't have those on standby alert. Ron Wanttaja The helicopters should have been on the alert the second night.......or at least the third.

20' long, 100mph drone fleet; weeks; over Langley, Norfolk Dec2023

Helicopter with a couple of marines with 12 guage shoguns. Fly up close, and cripple the quad or fixed wing. #2 shot is harmless as it falls to the ground, but at 50 feet, will pass through a Cessna fuselage or wing. Fixed wing should be addressed over the bay, or ocean.

20' long, 100mph drone fleet; weeks; over Langley, Norfolk Dec2023

This happened last year. Presumably, the agency demonstrating drone penetration over secure sites has proved their point. The sites have documented that they had the means to shoot down the drones, but no desire to clutter up the local streets with wreckage. I suspect that I know which...

Alec Baldwin shoots and kills cinematographer.

Separate criticism of the whole concept of that movie. Rust took place in Missouri, and I have flown and driven all over that state. It is green everywhere it has not been developed in modern times. How could a desert site in Aridzona, intentional spelling, reasonably depict Missouri...

    HOW DID THEY FLY WARBIRDS??

My wife's uncle died in that famous rehearsal. Operation Tiger. A member of my American Legion post drove one of the infamous tanks, modified to self propelled drive to the beach. 75% sank, with the loss of the entire crew. His made it to the beach, and the Germans did not kill him. He had...

A brand new plane still not better than a 50+ year old Cessna 182

I do not blame Southwest, I fly them. Alleviates most of the weather problems.:)

A brand new plane still not better than a 50+ year old Cessna 182

I do not see many take off or landing that represents traveling, as opposed to training for professional careers. No luggage into or out of the planes. At our airport, there is a sign in sign out log, and most of the flights originate here, and terminate here, same day. Primary training is...

The pills are $10,000 a month. The agony of dieting is only $5,000 a month, so he saved 5,000 imaginary dollars for plane costs. The true big plus, he has successfully achieved dieting, and has a really good likelihood of keeping it off. Congratulations My goal is smaller, and going slower.:(

Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

Like most of us, I did my training in Cessna’s and Pipers, which have benign stall characteristics. First, from the early sound changes, to slight shudders in the controls, you have a lot of warning well before the actual stall. Second, when the stall actually occurs, a quick push forward on...

Get A&P license to maintain own Airplane

akmetal, you seem to miss that when the FAA issues your A/P or IA, they are certifying that you are competent to perform work on any plane, not just your personal plane. Once you have the certificate, you can decide to do turbo normalized, fuel injected, pressurized aircraft, and no one can...
