    Finally restarted my flying lessons.

Actually, I figure about 25% at DA of around 7700 feet.

    So today, there I was.....

:yeahthat: I completely agree. It's worth at least an afternoon of your time. Tammy and I went through it years ago, shortly before an employee was caught and charged with stealing the exhibits and selling them. That was when I was working for Cessna in Wichita.

The most epic thing you've ever seen?

Something epic for me was when my now late wife, Tammy, and I flew to Paris to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We got there the morning of July 14 (my mother's birthday). We'd barely checked in to the hotel when it seemed like the entire French military turned out to celebrate both our...

[N/A] What's your blood type and how is your relationship with Mosquitos?

I have O+. When I lived in KS, my older brother got a lot more bites than I did. He ate a lot of bananas, I didn't. Skeeters didn't bother me much in So CA, nor Silicon Valley, but it's pretty dry there and essentially no standing water. I'm in CO now, near the front range, and it's really dry...

    SPL vs PPL

You're young and have a lot of life ahead of you. There are a lot of things that you could encounter later that will make you want to get your PPL. If you are working around the farm, I'm sure an extra $4K is difficult to come by, but with inflation that $4K can easily grow into $8K. Look up the...

    Finally restarted my flying lessons.

I had my second lesson at KEIK yesterday. I had a more than a 2-week break after the first lesson. There was stormy weather, it was too hot, the plane was down for its 100-hour inspection, and there was a plain crazy guy wandering around the airport when my intervening lessons were scheduled...

[NA but interesting] Big cylindrical slide rule - anybody ever used one?

    If you do rounding. 2.4 rounds to 2. 2.4 + 2.4 = 4.8, which rounds to 5. QED 2+ 2 = 5

Three brothers with no PPL considering purchasing a plane

This sounds like the deadly D's.

    Timebuilding Airplane

With an E-AB, you can do all the work on it yourself, but you'll need an A&P to do the annual condition inspection, if you don't have the repairman's certificate, and as you didn't build it, you won't. However, just because you can work on it doesn't mean you should. Thus, you'll probably spend...

Where is the ideal place to train? (I'll relocate)

I'm trying to get my PPL at Victor Air in Erie, CO at KEIK. Don't come here. Their flight instruction seems to be second fiddle to everything else. They only have a few planes and a few instructors. Twice they've canceled lessons (for good reasons), but never called me. I previously flew at...

    Cash is King

Markets climb a wall of worry. When the markets get too far ahead of themselves, they pull back and spend some time filling in the gaps. It's necessary for short term rates to be higher than long term rates (inverted yield curve - IYC), but that is not sufficient for a recession. I'm not sure...

    Airports with a Hotel...

Beaumont, KS. You don't walk from the airstrip to the hotel. You taxi, on the paved roads. Be sure to obey the traffic laws.

    Thinking about taking the Mother of All Road Trips;

A lot has happened in the last year and a half. Tammy passed Jan 4, 2023. I was laid off from two companies. I sold my house in Sunnyvale, CA and moved to Erie, CO. I just closed on a house in the Erie Airpark. It's a fixer upper but has really good bones. It also doesn't have a hangar, but...

Cessna 172 and PA-28-140 - over the dash visibility on the ground

I flew 172 Q's, M's, and P's at Aerodynamic Aviation. They each had about the same height IP. I flew an N at Vector Air, and the IP was noticeably higher. Next flight, I need to adjust the seat higher than bottomed out. (Sorry about that).

    I’m calling the peak

That's because they have to be alive to drink water. And last I checked, it's illegal to bury live people.

    Finally restarted my flying lessons.

I resumed my flying lessons, again! I had my first lesson in 3 months at Vector Flight at the Erie Municipal Airport (KEIK) yesterday. Their operation is not nearly as rigorous as Aerodynamic Aviation's. I logged 0.8 hours of time in a Cessna 172N N733XB if you want to track it on flight...

    AI Rant

Iassac Asimov explored AI in the form of humanoid robots in his robot stories and novels. He incorporated robots in his empire and foundation series. I couldn't identify with Elijah Bailey not liking robots in the initial novels but now that AI is at hand, I can understand why. On a side note...

    Shop planning

Forget about it? That hasn't ever shown up on my RADAR. The air east of the Colorado Front Range is really dry, but apparently there is a lot of subsurface water. Thanks for the tip
