Dual G5s vs say a Dynon HDX 10 or G3X

If you are used to a big screen, going backwards to G5’s is going to leave a lot to be desired.

    Flying G5 With TruTrak/Aerocruze 100 and Avidyne IFD 540

The best prosecute would be to push the Mode button on the Aerocruze. This would put the auto pilot in internal Track mode at your current ground track, which should be the wind-corrected current heading. When in track mode, flip the source switch. Give it 5 or 10 seconds for the data to get...

    Dynon EFIS D10A

I honestly can’t imagine a good reason to install an Aspen, especially in an experimental. Unless it was given to you, I’d go with a SkyView.

    Dynon 182 Auto Pilot Approved

There is no official estimate on recertification. It don’t expect it to be more than a couple of months. You can install roll now and prewire for pitch, then add Pitch when it’s fixed.

    G5-HSI problem

There is a reset feature, but I don’t remember it. Something like holding both button and knob in for 20 seconds.

    For Sale 530W & 430W

I have a really nice 430W for sale with RAMI GPS antenna, tray and mostly complete harness for $5,500. I have a 530W with a crappy (works, but doesn't look great) screen for sale with RAMI GPS antenna, new tray and new connector kit for $4,300. I think the Garmin flat rate overhaul is about...

legal to install a non tso EFIS ?

Even if you can get a mechanic to install it and even sign off as a minor alteration, the next mechanic that looks at it may have a problem with it. Most mechanics don't check those things when they do inspections, especially if they didn't know how the plane used to be. If you were to have an...

Slide in replacement for a Garmin 400 or 400W

The Avidyne 410 is a slide-in option. If you have it wired for a future 430/440, then that is one more avenue for upgrade. I have installed a number of 400W’s in the past. Great unit. I wouldn’t consider a 400 non-W, but the 400W is a good way to go.

Garmin G5 Driving an Aerocruze 100 (TruTrak)

The internal control will give you gps ground track. The G5 will give you magnetic heading. It will also sync the Baro-adjusted altitude in the auto pilot. Not a big deal, but for the “heading” purists, driving the heading from the G5 is important. For those who care less about where they are...

how much weight can you shave in an experimental?

Our average is usually 25 lbs I think.

    KFC200 disconnects

Disconnect is usually a momentary contact to ground, and do is PTT. The panel PTT and yoke PTT are most likely connected somewhere behind the panel. I’d guess there is a short between the Disconnect and PTT wires somewhere in the coil cord, but more likely on one end or the other. You could try...

    Diversity

It will be interesting to see how Canada handles this situation. With the number of US planes that visit Canada, they could significantly hurt their tourism industry by not allowing planes into Canada without diversity ADS-B, which very few US planes have or will likely ever have.

It should be. Nobody has installed one yet. Our first set of equipment arrives on Thursday.

    Dynon 182 Auto Pilot Approved

I charge $8,500 installed when installing the system at the same time. For an auto pilot this good, it’s cheap at twice the price.

    Dynon 182 Auto Pilot Approved

I would say about 40 hours to install at the most. Running the wires is a big chunk of the battle. The servo in the tail will need someone small, probably, but beyond that it shouldn't be difficult.

    Audio issues

Sounds like a wiring harness problem. If you unplug from the pilot side and plug only into the copilot side, how does it sound? I'm wondering if there may be a single wire tying the pilot and copilot mic jacks together. They should be independent.
