2 GPS Sources and 1 HSI

There may be some kind of special relay that would do what you are wanting, but I am not sure. The problem with that is that you would lose navigation from both of your navigators if anything on your HSI failed. I would us a separate CDI for the 375. You can get a cheap used KI209 for that.

    TAA Requirements

I am assuming that you are referring to dual G5's. My understanding would be that this would meet the TAA requirements, but somebody else would have to say if there is a letter from the FAA about this.

    Unit to control coms?

It’s an audio panel. There are ways around that, but it’s best to add an audio panel. You could add a DPDT switch to select which com you transmit on, then listen to both (into the intercom radio audio line) and control which you hear with the volume knob. Then you would need a SPST switch t9...

    Garmin or Avidyne with Dynon

I think you’ll like the Avidyne better, and it requires no rewiring.

330ES Transponder No Longer Boots up Automatically

Pin 1 on the GTX330(ES) is the Avionics Master On pin. If you give power to that pin with the Avionics Master, it will turn the transponder on. If the transponder power is coming from the avionics bus, you can just jumper pin 1 to one of the power pins on the 330 (21 and 42 for Power 1 or 56 and...

G5 and Tru Trak/Aerocruze 100 Altitude Hold Question

If you are far enough out, then 4,000’ may be below the glideslope and you can just maintain that until capture. If you need to dive below the glideslope, then you will need to trim to level off or you will overshoot. The G5 doesn’t control the altitude. If you have an altitude bug set on the...

Avionics Shop Recommendations - Midwest / Southeast

The Dynon will talk to the GTN650. The King will have its own CDI. The auto pilot will fly everything the 650 controls. The Dynon doesn't care if there is a Stratus Transponder. It can provide altitude encoder info to it. The Dynon system would likely be close to the same price as a GFC500 and 2...

hello quick question about an upgrade in progress

Usually the STEC head needs to get modified for the G5 to work. Call Approach Fast Stack & talk to Tim.

    Ifd540 vs Garmin750xi

The 750 is nice, but I would never pull a 540 to install the 750. If you have a 530 as well, the sliding in another 540 would be a great option. No rewiring required.

Upgrading a NAV/COM instead of an older model GPS

I have installed one, but I’m sure I will be installing more. It’s about $800 cheaper than the GNC255A there is a software issue that they are working through if using an EFIS as your HSI, but it is a fairly easy work-around while waiting for the new software.

    EchoUAT with Skyfyx

Not a bad unit if you want UAT. Much better, IMHO, than the SkyBeacon or TailBeacon

Upgrading a NAV/COM instead of an older model GPS

    I won’t touch a plane with a KX170 anymore. I’d install a Trig TX56A or a used SL-30.

    PIREP Garmin GPS 175

I have installed many of these. For what it does, it’s a home run by Garmin. You’ll need a CDI with a glideslope needle for IFR use. You don’t need a Garmin CDI. A KI209 works and is inexpensive used.

What is the "debacle" you refer to?

Aerocruze 100 (TruTrak) - GS FLG

If you get below the glideslope, then the GS FLG should change to GS ARM, then GS CPLD when it centers. If flagged, it may need to get to Alt Hold before it will Arm, but I don’t think so.

Problems wit AeroCruze 100 install (lack thereof)

$14k is way too much. The equipment costs around $5,000 or a little more. We charge $9,000 with installation. There is a decent lead time on equipment right now, mainly on the 12V 60in-lb servo. I have 16 of them on order. Hopefully I’ll start getting them soon.

    Avionics panel design software

We use TurboCAD and have a decent list of previous panels, as do I’m sure many others. That is proprietary information (intelectual property), though. You may find a shop that will share, but they may charge you for it.

Dual G5s vs say a Dynon HDX 10 or G3X

I picked up about 20 kts with the Texas Skyways O-550. Insurance is a lot higher on a retract. the Dynon auto pilot brackets are very close to being fixed.
