GRYDER WINS - $1.2M Defamation Case Reversed

An article on Captain Zoom's site about Dan Gryder is the link I am least likely to click, ever. Got any other source of info?

    Lilium Runs Out of Money

UAM is one of the applications where current batteries can work. They don't have to go long distances, so capacity isn't as big of a deal as it would be if they were trying to replace applications where we use airplanes today. They're definitely going to spend a fair amount of time charging, and...

Finally stopped thinking - bought my first plane!

    Yes, excellent suggestion!

    So I bought a C182 - what now?

OK. Be aware that I think the R model still had 40 degrees of flaps, and so it will be somewhat different. One thing I would recommend you do right away is to find the power setting that gets you a stable approach at the correct speed on a 3-degree glidepath. Then, set it and forget it... At...

    Airline pilots question

Um... What??? There are plenty of people who stick with the corporate flying world, and many of those jobs have a better lifestyle. Airline pay is better, but corporate pay allows for a very comfortable life as well. @Tony R Have your son look into flying jobs other than the airlines too if...

    So I bought a C182 - what now?

Congratulations! Kinda. I mean, I know you're excited about this as you should be, but don't let that keep you from walking away if the prebuy finds anything that should be a deal killer. Fly the wheel pants off of it! Aim for once a week minimum. You may save enough money in maintenance to pay...

Finally stopped thinking - bought my first plane!

Whoa, those GDL 5xs got expensive! :o The other option from Garmin is the GDL 39, a simpler predecessor to the GDL 5x series. If you're looking at the SkySensor, I'd take that over a portable thing. GNX 375 is GPS + Transponder and it does connect to the iPad. Buttonology is nothing like the...

Foreflight slow on iPad mini6. Anyone else seeing this?

Have you updated anything recently? After an iOS update, the OS re-learns all of your habits over the course of a few days, so everything slows down a bit and it chews through the battery faster before going back to normal. As others have said, it's worth rebooting at the very least.

It's hard to keep all these "air taxi" companies straight. I'm sure more will go under before it's over.

GRYDER WINS - $1.2M Defamation Case Reversed

Really? I've not seen any get shut down, and there's plenty still open... I would imagine that if there are threads getting shut down they're probably ones where something potentially lawsuit-worthy got in. :dunno: Won the battle, maybe, but I doubt he'll win the war.

Civilian Pilot Training Program (1938-44) question.

Ah, that could be... I wonder if they had any thoughts as to how many fighter pilots vs. bomber, transport, and other side-by-side pilots they'd need. FWIW, I think your last line is right on, that experience of any kind makes things easier. I had a few hundred hours before I first flew a J-3...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Well, I still have some Google-fu. Took four minutes to find it: Bethel St, Norwich, England.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Where? FWIW, the newer picture is likely more computing power. And isn't this a joke thread?

Civilian Pilot Training Program (1938-44) question.

Interesting that they didn't want side-by-side seating. I wonder what the reasoning was?

    I’m calling the peak

The thing is, if high demand increases prices on the low end, the higher end is pushed up as well. With the huge demand and insane prices for trainers, my airplane (M20R, definitely nothing near a trainer!) roughly doubled in value for a while. If you can sell your formerly-$40K C172 for $120K...

GRYDER WINS - $1.2M Defamation Case Reversed

Thank you! Shocking that he'd call it a win.  I think my "favorite" thing I've seen in a Gryder court transcript was when they went briefly off the record, and then the judge came back on and said he'd been spoken to by building security and that "Mr. Gryder came into the...

Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

Ah, yes. I see that in the install manual now... But that's what I get for looking in the Pilot's Guide instead!

GRYDER WINS - $1.2M Defamation Case Reversed

I'm not giving Gryder a view just to listen to him gloat. Hopefully one of our lawyer folks will post a link to a court transcript instead. As I understood it, the original judgement was given because Gryder didn't even show up.

FFS. I need a new hobby.

Ah, I didn't know they brought Farmall back. My dad grew up on a farm in rural PA and they had a Farmall H. He went off to Penn State and got a degree in Dairy Science, and then to the University of Wisconsin where he got his master's and PhD. He really took to the research and teaching of...

Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

You can edit the track logs after the fact: On the G3X EIS, you have "Total Hours" and "Engine Hours". The "Engine Hours", per the manual, is "Counted whenever a valid RPM is detected" and so should be equivalent to a normal oil-pressure Hobbs.
