What plane would you buy in my situation?

Supposedly Piper designed it that way because if you were buying such a high class plane as a Comanche, surely the line guy would be helping you preflight and would be the one crawling under the plane... Also, I believe that they were originally set up with something to pull in the cabin to get...

    Growler Down

Remembering Two Trailblazing Aviators: Lt. Cmdr. Lyndsay “Miley” Evans and Lt. Serena “Dug” Wileman On behalf of all of Team Whidbey, our condolences go out to the families of our fallen aviators. In the world of U.S. Naval Aviation, very few names will be forever imprinted with their...

    Growler Down

As expected, it didn't take long for this kind of crap to appear: Of course, someone went and looked this guy up in the registry, and found that he had a private pilot certificate, no instrument rating, issued 2008. As pilots, we need to call out this kind of behavior because there's too...

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

Maybe you should explain it again... Or ask a teacher to teach you how to express ideas in written form more clearly. ;) Is that greater Chicagoland, or is it Effingham? There's a big cost of living difference, so "Illinois" doesn't tell us much here. Training allows you to handle more...

Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

I wouldn't be surprised if, since they used to power back, the union fought against tugs for that reason until the FAA agreed to look the other way, and it's all been lost to history since...

My first 6 hours continuous flight - need advice

Ditto on the two 3-hour legs, though there may be, um, political issues with doing so? OP, do you have an autopilot? Use it. It will help immensely.

    182 Vent Plugs?

I've seen the duct tape thing done, but be sure you still have a way to get fresh, NON-heated air inside in case you end up with a fire or CO emergency.

RIP, Aviators. :( I can't wait to see what some of the Facebook pilot groups are going to say about this crew.

Word to the wise - a warm body with a certificate days are over - for now.

Lots of XC, good, lots of PIC, good, decent percentage of instrument time, good... Very little multi, not good. And not a whole lot of night either. I think you'll need 25 multi to get in anywhere, 50+ is better, and it wouldn't hurt to get some more night time.

Hey old people, tell us what you can't do!

I turned 50 this year, and my body wants to make sure I remember that, and my brain wants to be sure I remember nothing else. And my kids are 1 and 7, so I have parent brain too. Let's see. In the last year, I've started having chronic back pain, gone from zero to bifocals, etc... It's already...

What plane would you buy in my situation?

Mooney is not gone. They're just not building new airplanes. There's still a small crew at the factory, and they do maintenance, support, and support the service network with parts. https://mooney.com/ Mooney is the trick candle of aircraft manufacturers. They've gone through something like 14...

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

"Competition" isn't something you get by creating a shortage either. But yes, there is competition. My wife works in a well-off suburban district, that people generally would like to work for. We get plenty of teachers from other districts - Both smaller rural districts where there's...

Is Broken at 1300 considered VFR?

Ah, OK. Didn't know about that one. There's a gray area with some of that stuff. I know that quite a few people have been violated for low passes, but I also know that when I learned to fly, some of the FAA materials suggested that when approaching an unfamiliar uncontrolled airport, that a low...

Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

The FAA doesn't care enough to write them regulations for logging it. ;p I mean, they had the whole section on "wench launching" in the Glider Flying Handbook for years! Yeah, that's what I was referring to. Good old oil-pressure-switch "Rental Hobbs". I have a Hobbs in my plane but...

    Totally random trivia…

There were a lot more instances like that in the early days. I-270 in MD used to be I-70S too for example.

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

Let me guess: Small town very far from anything resembling suburbs? Or big-city school district? Those seem to be the problem areas... But shrinking the supply of good teachers isn't going to help any of them. Hah... No. There's a teacher here who might be fired because she was using the same...

    Battery Lawn Mowers

I've been eyeing the Yarbo as it seems like it might actually be big enough to do my lawn, and has attachments to do other duties like blowing snow in the winter too. I'm not quite there yet, but thinking about it...

    Internal engine pre-heater--opinions?

IMO, if you're using a heater like that, it should be used only long enough to get the oil warmed up for start. Maybe good if you live in an area of the country where it doesn't generally get much below 30ºF and you just like to warm it up for 15 minutes before you start or something. However...

What plane would you buy in my situation?

Stock answer to this question is a C182, unless something particular about your mission points elsewhere. Why? The 182 is easy to buy, easy to maintain, easy to insure, easy to fly, carries a heavy load, lands darn near anywhere and on anything, and is easy to sell if/when your mission changes...

    Eviation redesigned Alice

Which one? That guy vomited ideas like his brain was bulimic. Not sure if there was ever a good one though. https://web.archive.org/web/20240000000000*/martinaviationgroup.com
