Your school does things very strangely. Are you not allowed/supposed to schedule the DPE yourself? When I was getting close-ish, we checked availability and then I scheduled for three to four weeks out. Then my CFI and I worked through everything left. I ended up taking my checkride six months...

We had that same dictionary, though I can't remember which edition it was, and used it pretty much for the same things. :)

I tried to read the dictionary when I was a kid, but if I recall, only made it about halfway through the "d"s. I also started out to read my parents' collection of A-Z encyclopedias when I was nine or ten because I'd read everything else in the house my mom let me read...I made it to "geology"...

Regardless of whether it is legally required or not, I would recommend getting a fresh sign-off. My CFI and I both failed to notice that my 90 day solo authorization had expired the previous day but my DPE allowed me to go find my CFI and have her sign me a fresh one right then, dated the day...
