    Flying the Piper Pawnee

Don’t know if this was the same plane - very similar paint scheme - but this was one of the ones I ferried: Most likely Opa Locka with my mother-in-law.

    Flying the Piper Pawnee

Could be. Long time ago, but no doubt it’s in one of my old logbooks somewhere.

    Major cellular outage

Karen’s phone came back up at noon, mine 5 minutes later.

    Flying the Piper Pawnee

Nobody asked, but… I learned tailwheel in a Cub.Then bought a Citabria, and even taught in it. I was asked if I could ferry a Cessna cropduster. AgTruck or AgHusky as I recall. No way to get checked out, of course. On first takeoff, I got up some speed and pushed the stick forward to lift the...

Toyota is right about EVs after all...

That doesn’t remote imply he sees it as a panacea. If one understands what panacea means.

Toyota is right about EVs after all...

Straw man. Not even Elon sees it as a panacea. More like an arrow in the quiver.

    Major cellular outage

We pay extra to activate the cellular on our iPads - maybe $15/mo each? Though in most cases we could use our phones as hot spots, it’s really convenient and today it’s really paying off. Still weird that enough of the network is up for the iPads to work fine in spite of the “outage”.

Toyota is right about EVs after all...

If you ended up with a Tesla, or an EV that can utilize the SuperCharger network, you might change your mind about the feasibility of long trips in an EV. We certainly did.

    Flying the Piper Pawnee

If you’re used to lower-powered tailwheel aircraft, be cautious raising the tail on takeoff. You may get a lesson that gyroscopic precession is more than theoretical if you do it too quickly. DAMHIK.

    Major cellular outage

Karen and I are camping near Plant City, FL. This morning neither of our iPhones on AT&T have service - they did last night - showing “SOS”, which in an emergency can send out a signal via satellite. Weirdly, our iPads using cellular are getting a strong cell signal, which is how I’m sending...

For Sale [NA] MGTD project near Knoxville, TN

Karen and I stopped by Gateway Classic Cars near Tampa yesterday. If you’re looking for a classic MG in marginally better condition, they have one! Karen found her dream car there as well.

Toyota is right about EVs after all...

Exactly the case with our 2022 Model 3. Fastest car we‘ve ever owned, with exemplary handling. Basic Autopilot which is a boon on long road trips. We often go for drives and even trips just for the joy of it. Also zero maintenance other than 1 set of tires at about 42k. And a rear defroster...

Stairway to Heaven - Not the Song

I’ve only had that feeling a handful of times… After flying along in IMC, suddenly shooting out into a wide open vista… Taking off from an airport that falls off rapidly at the end of the runway… Intentionally skimming along a butte, like in Monument Valley, and having it fall away. Beyond...

Stairway to Heaven - Not the Song

I think I first read of this hypothesis years ago in an article by Richard Collins. Before that I thought I was just weird that way.

    folding a sectional

Years ago I went to a Grumman American get together. They had games, like a “broken towbar“ race. Another, for kids, was a chart folding competition. What made it interesting was folks were jostling the chairs they were seated in, plus others blew a fan on them, while someone else sprayed them...

    This flying seems awfully expensive...

I think the joke sign I posted above was in NC. We camped at a campground in Sea Level, NC, which after a rain lived up to its name. Standing water, much?
