    Crosswind landing no-flap taildragger

Not sure if it’s what you were getting at, but in my Citabrias with spring steel gear, I found myself less likely to bounce wheel landings if I rolled one wheel onto the pavement first, even with no crosswind. I favored the right wheel, either because I’m right handed or because I was accustomed...

    Henning gone west

“Oh, I can, no worries. If I ever commit suicide, I plan to take way more. Nope, if I'm committing suicide, God is in no laughing mood, I'd be doing the people a favor with a quick painless death while screwing myself.” I always wondered if someone should have, or maybe did, report that post to...

    Henning gone west

Somewhere I still have a screenshot of a post of his where he said he could do a better job than the German pilot who intentionally crashed a commercial jet, killing all onboard. And that he’d be doing the doomed passengers a favor by providing them with a quick and painless death. I remember...

    Beech Sport/Sundowner

I had a bunch of hours in Beech’s back in the day, mostly in the C24R Sierra retractable. My impression back then was they seemed more solid than the typical offering from Cessna, Piper or Grumman American. Can’t say how well they’ve fared in the 40+ years since then, but I suspect they’ve held...

Thinking about building a hangar home, where to start?

Ours is officially an “attached garage”. No fire suppression system, but it did need to be “finished” - I.e. required insulation. Our all-in building cost, including 1,350’ of living space, came in under the $500k mentioned prior, albeit at 2018 prices.

    It’s just a ****ing game

To be fair, that would explain it.

    It’s just a ****ing game

It was not my cup of tea. But that’s apparently a generational thing - it definitely resonated with Millenials and younger folks in general. Sadly, the artists we might prefer are now largely relegated to oldies stations.

    Tesla Model 3 - Finally.

After too, too many cringingly bad awards shows, this year’s Grammy’s was quite good. High points for us so were Tracey Chapman and Luke Combs doing “Fast Car”, and great performances by Miley Cyrus, Annie Lennox and Joni Mitchell and many others. The tribute to artists we lost over the last...

    Tesla Model 3 - Finally.

2 million Tesla’s recalled. What the hell? We’ll go ahead and install it while we watch the Grammy’s. A hardship, I know. But we’ll wake up tomorrow feeling so much safer with the larger fonts!

    Buying a LSA. Good idea?

    Or there‘s another glaring possibility.

    Buying a LSA. Good idea?

Agreed. Flying my Cirrus was quite rewarding, and most times, enjoyable. But the Sky Arrow is more fun, hands down,

    Buying a LSA. Good idea?

Nothing personal, but the post above by bluesideup is nonsense.

    Buying a LSA. Good idea?

In short, it's a good idea. I bought a factory demo SR22 in 2003. Sold it in 2007 to buy my 2007 Sky Arrow LSA. Took it Experimental Light Sport in 2009 and took the class in order to do my own Annual Condition Inspections, which I've done annually since then. I cruise at about 95-100 kts. At...

    Apple Vision and Foreflight

Marques Brownlee does a nice overview of the pluses and minuses of Gen 1 Apple Vision here: It’s mostly impressive for where this tech is headed, not so much where it is right now.

Thinking about an EV (nvm, bought one)

I believe the batteries are roughly 90% recyclable, and companies are springing up to do just that. Very few will end up in landfills. Not to mention, how much gasoline is recyclable?

Thinking about an EV (nvm, bought one)

It does sometimes cross my mind that we're no longer producing used motor oil that has to be bought and disposed of, and overall are cutting back on carbon emissions, if only a little. But then you have to get into the cost and side effects of mining the metals for the batteries and such, and...

Masters of the Air--coming to Apple TV

I, too, expected the first episode to emphasize the dynamics and dangers of flight training, maybe following one or several trainees through the rigors of preparing for combat. I have not seen “The Pacific”. Recommended? And I don’t clearly remember “12 O’clock High”. Worth watching in...

Masters of the Air--coming to Apple TV

It's been a long time, but I recall Band of Brothers took a while to set up the characters, starting with boot camp. Character development takes a while, so I'll be patient. Not that there was any lack of action in the first two episodes.
