    Garmin 696 geo-referenced charts

The Government charts are subsidize by our taxes, Jepp is a a owned co. So the price may be more for the Gov charts. We all pay for them some how. It is amazing that Jepp charts are 10 times more but they still sell, I myself have grown up with them and for me easier to read. I use both.

    G1000 data logging

I have the check list and really never use it, the MFD has to be up and running so all the info for pre start is useless. I have a copy of the checklist on my 695. The OEM is who calls the shots on what is on the SW. So it would be Diamond that removed it.

    Is this strobe legal?

You can put almost any strobe on your plane and do a field approval, maybe just a log book entry.

    SG-102 / KG-102 / Sandel 3500 / KFC225

You will need a gyro for the Sandel. A KG102 is a good gyro but the KG102A is much better. The auto pilot does not need a gyro but you need the AI like a KI256 that has the FD to drive the AP, what AI are you going to get from a Sandel 3500? There is no AHRS to drive it.

    New plane pricing

You have way more headroom for negotiation on the older model than the new plane. But if you are ever going to sell it the newer plane will be easier to sell with the G1000 and GFC700.

    Garmin service alert G1000,430,530

Yes, it is for the most part for other than the US, but there are pilots that fly out of the US or are based in other than the US.

    G1000 data logging

Yes, I agree enough time and you can get into anything, Some top SW techs try to see what is on a SVS unlock card and it is just blank, but when you put it in the GDU it does show a file. They even tried a Lenux computer and still could not see a file on the card. Then again, it is important...

    G1000 data logging

You can not do it and still have the cards work, there is data on the cards that is hidden and a computer can not copy them. It takes a computer with the right firmware to copy. Garmin has that covered to keep people from making copies of SW.

    G1000 data logging

My check list goes into the top slot. I do not like messing with data on the supplemental cards. If they get corrupted it will cost about $1000 for new ones if they are the -43 cards which I and Cessna uses.

    G1000 data logging

"The Diamond owners who are using the checklist said to put it on the card and not alter anything already there... But if it actually works in the top slot I'd rather do that." Do not put any data on the supplemental cards. Read the service bulletin from garmin, 0801

    G1000 data logging

Did you make a folder named "print" ? Did you get your checklist from your OEM? If not it will not work. 9.15 will data log but you have the old style page info like a 430 530. Many new features with 10.00 and higher.

    G1000 data logging

"The manual does not specify which slot the checklist file should be in." Because the check list comes from the OEM. Yes you can put the check list in bottom slot but then the supplemental data card will have to go in the top. Better to keep both supplemental cards in the bottom slot.

    G1000 data logging

To get a screen shot of the MFD or PFD. Make a folder on a SD card name it "print" and put in the upper slot. Then hit the soft key 2 and 11 that will copy the screen to the print folder. I do not do it that much, much easier to use the PC sim to get a screen shot use "screen capture" then go...

    G1000 data logging

Be carefull adding anything to the terrain data cards. I would not add any app to them but charts and updates, do not use it to update NAV Jepp data, there is a SB to not use them for it.

    G1000 data logging

You are getting the system software mixed up with the GDU software. The GDU (display) MFD PFD is what we need to know what that is. A -41 -42 -43 are the last numbers of the part number for the bottom MFD and PFD data cards, -43 will have SVS on it, the -42 has charts and sfe taxi, and the -41...

    G1000 data logging

You can only use a flight plan from a 696/5 or Jepp and there is one other flight planner you can use but I will have to look it up. Remember both top and bottom slots can have the -41,-42,or-43 data cards in the pfd or mfd it will work in any slot, but the check list goes in the top of the...

    G1000 data logging

I am using the data logging in a 2010 Cessna182, you can upload and download flight plans from a 695/6 also. If you have a check list on the upper slot of the MFD just copy it to a larger card and you will have check list and data log on the same card. I have two check list data cards and...
