    Ideal aircraft for commercial training

This is a commercial checkride, not PPL. I do short field landings often. The trick is in flaring at the perfect time, then it doesn't have to be a hard landing just because it's short. But you have to define what short field is. For this airplane it means 2000' when she's heavy. The nose...

    Ideal aircraft for commercial training

This is helpful. I was worried it would need to be full throttle, based on some training videos I was watching. I can practice maneuvers at 24 MP / 2400 RPM. At typical training altitudes that's probably 2/3 throttle.

    Ideal aircraft for commercial training

This makes sense. I suppose I should slow to 96 kt first. Then go power on while pitching up. That would be more representative of a power-on stall at takeoff. I think previously I had been doing them starting at 115 knots which is top of white arc. A lot of good info here. I suppose I never...

    Ideal aircraft for commercial training

This makes sense. A little weight in the back can help with leverage, reducing the elevator needed. I'll find a way to put weight in the back, making it easier to pivot for chandelles and lazy8's. Otherwise it would have a tenancy to keep on climbing, or needing excessive pitch to get near...

    Ideal aircraft for commercial training

Hi all, I have about 1300 hours and I've been flying for 18 years. I decided to get my commercial done this year. Has anyone done a checkride in a high performance 300 HP airplane? If so, did you find it difficult, or would you say the difficulty level is probably the same if I already know...

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

I'm suggesting that if the seatbelt were too loose her body would be thrown forward a bit. Pulling back close to your chest would require more bicep strength than if the arms are extended. I don't know how far back she adjusted her seat. I've seen crash report videos that show the seat...

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

Several posts on this topic are speculating if they autopilot trim was or was not the problem. It wasn't because this airplane did not have electric trim. But this does not rule out the autopilot as being a contributing factor. I wonder if the autopilot enganged and for whatever reason would...

    AV-30-C vs regular vacuum DG

I recalibrated my AV-30c this weekend. The new software update 2.3.9 has a lot of new settings. I took the time to calibrate everything, not just the new stuff. Now when I do a 180 degree turn, the internal magnetometer holds within 2 degrees of actual. Not bad. Being that there was a...

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

My wife, sweet as she is, has the same problem. When she drives a car she can't turn her head, else she runs off the road. She's in her 40's and apparently been driving like that all her life. I would NEVER put her at the controls. My 13-old son is more trusted with the airplane controls...

That's even more puzzling. 27 degrees nose down should be recoverable.

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

Eye witnesses on the ground said that it sounded like the airplane was at full throttle. Full power lawn dart, then a crater and a fireball. To me this is what is so intriguing about this accident. So many obvious issues, so much complacency... it's like a bad B-rated movie when you know...

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

I don't remember who it was, but someone in this thread ripped me for suggesting it was a 45 degree down angle. Am I redeemed yet? Or do I still need a math lesson?

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

All speculation, but I can't help but wonder how much they were working on that autopilot. Maybe trying to fix it several times, which disturbs wires, hoses and other stuff that can get jammed into a control column. I was thinking of that after looking behind my panel at my rat's nest of...

    AV-30-C vs regular vacuum DG

I just updated my firmware yesterday. I wasn't difficult. 15 pin solderless connector" has screws to tighten wires, and snaps together. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RS6GMHY 9 pin side: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SKYMX4W 9-pin to USB: (the one recommended by uAvionix)...

    Insurance vs. Hull Value

I insure my hull for what I have invested in it, not the replacement cost. If I wreck it, I'm done flying.

    AV-30-C vs regular vacuum DG

I was just watching the uAvionix update video for software version 2.4.1. They added a feature to trim the low and high airspeed for a more accurate reading. Link: Check Out Version 2.4.1 https://uavionix.com/open-connected-cockpit/ They show the feature at about 8 minutes in the video

    Spatial disorientation in IMC

I think it's tough do announce you are having trouble. Especially if you have passengers. One time it was so bad I nearly declared an emergency. ATC was extremely kind and helpful. After that I just ask them for anything I need. So don't be scared to ask for deviations, altitude changes...

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

I've been thinking a lot about why this story is so interesting to me. I think it's because partially because of larger trends that are happening in the world these days, which crossed over into our world of aviation. People creating videos, documenting their lives, for better for worse, all...

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

I'm curious what words you would use to describe people driving on the highway these days. :incazzato: I can't help but wonder if we are regressing as humans. Our technology is destroying our attention spans. Is what we are seeing in these videos part of a larger trend?
