What do you think of these compressions?

The great thing about Continentals, is that the bottom end tends to be moderately better in tolerating low use. The cam is near the bottom of the engine, and oil drips onto it on the way down to the oil sump. With that said, the top end (valve train) tends to be the weaker item. But hey, it's...

Pre - Buy vs. Annual Inpection

Being an owner and an A&P/IA myself, I'd say that I use the same checklist for both types of inspections. The difference really is in the mindset behind the inspection. With an annual, I'm focused on airworthiness and general maintenance items, and any additional issues that might develop...

    Gear Saddles for 1960 210

The nice thing about the turbo 210 is that with proper care you shouldn't need to replace the saddles (AFAIK, the AD for inspecting them every 100hrs still applies). Only the 1960 and 1961 models require replacement every 1000 flt hrs. V/r,

    Cessna 210 gear door problems

As everyone has said, something is preventing the gear door control solenoid valve from energizing (or in some cases, the solenoid valve might be sticking). The default (deenergized) state for that solenoid is to open the doors, it's a cool feature, as with minor manipulation you can open/close...

    some interior shots (corrosion?)

AFAIK, MEK and/or Lacquer thinner on a scotchbrite pad work as well... But bring your fresh air respirator and good PPE to keep you from killing yourself with the fumes.

Cylinder compressions low on an IO-360

Yep, works great... Lasts a long time! Way better than changing a cylinder prematurely ;-) I did it on our engine around 1,000hrs STOH, went ahead and did the exhaust valves on the whole engine in an afternoon. It's amazing the kind of operations you can do without tearing off the jugs! A...

Buying first plane and need to upgrade avionics

Like has already been said a couple times here... Buy the plane, and put gas in it until you decide what you really want to do. ADS-B upgrade is the only part that you really need. The GTX-335 promo bundle from spruce is $3,600 (plus a bit of install). You can use that same time during...

    some interior shots (corrosion?)

I took the wings off our C-172 and after carefully removing the controls & cables (and electrical bits) I washed them internally with hot water and mild soap. It did a fairly good job of removing a lot of the dirt and grease, then follow up with many rags dampened with mineral spirits...

Got one tiny piece of metal out of my oil filter...

Buy a supply of extra washers for the screens, and check them. Cheap insurance ;-) Like with many things, consistency in your technique is what will help you spot a trend. A single simple flake means nothing. However, a shiny tooth in the suction screen would mean a lot ;-) Odds are that...

    Gear Saddles for 1960 210

The flat gear 210's (at least the early ones) need to have the main wheels at least 16" off the ground as per the SM, which puts the bottom of the fuselage approximately 36" off of the floor. Not sure how high you have to jack the tube gear ones, but looks even higher...? When I checked the...

Nope, unless you want them to run hotter than they already will when breaking in ;-)

Data time - Burned exhaust valves

Regardless, get the $40 borescope camera on Amazon before your annual and take pics of all of the exhaust valves. That will tell you some much more useful data than your engine monitor currently is ;-)

What Percentage of Your Time is Cross Country?

Roughly 2/3rd of my 1,000 hrs at last check... I take some long trips for work occasionally, so that adds up fast! My record is still 50hrs on one week, with 12.2 in one day!

    Cessna flaps

When is the last time the flap actuator was removed, cleaned and the gearbox in the jackscrew regreased? That would be my first goto, we didn't have any issues, but the grease was dried out when I took it out and inspected ours about a year ago.

Nose wheel vibration......advice urgently needed please

Ours did this, until I re-shimmed the NLG scissors, and then balanced the new tire... Considerable improvement.
