What do you do for living (or used to)?

    - Started off 30 years ago as an Aircraft Electrician/Avionics Specialist (Air Force) - After 12 years, then moved on to be a First Sergeant (Air Force senior enlisted minion) - Finished up college, and became an Aerospace Physiologist 13 years ago (Yes, Air Force) (altitude chambers, human...

GA friendly airport in San Francisco area

The wife and I stopped in to KLVK last week to do some shopping that the outlet mall. 5 Rivers aviation at LVK is really a nice operation! If you are inclined, we made a video of the trip on our YouTube channel. Search for "Shopping in Livermore, CA - This Old Airplane" (Shameless plug)...

Advice For Leveling Plane To Set Slip/Skid Indicator

Lol, what I learned is that I shouldn't have hesitated a bit... On a 100- or 200-series Cessna, most of the rigging check is visual...

Advice For Leveling Plane To Set Slip/Skid Indicator

It was different when I was working on helicopters too, and there was a fancy set of rigging pins to precisely check the rigging of things with... It seems a bit different when the rigging check is to eyeball things and see if they "look" centered in a particular slot, or does the trailing...

certified G5 can now receive portable GPS data

Lol, I hear you... Although technically since the display is red (and you are between the 0 and the 1) you're actually on the wrong side of the line. Of course, with the resolution of the old ASI, you wouldn't have ever known that... V/r,

Advice For Leveling Plane To Set Slip/Skid Indicator

So, I just did some investigation on our C210B (which is very much like a 182 in many respects) and knowing about the concentric bushings-that was my first go-to when troubleshooting our pilot-wing heavy discrepancy. In cruise flight, when rudder trim is set to prevent the roll tendency the...

    Plastics Repair

Hi Tim, I've used the Black plastic welder as well... I should have included it in my video too, as it works really well when you want to reinforce a repair and add some strength (I didn't have any on hand, and I don't use it too much). I used it for some areas of the center console refurb...

    Disappointed in Aircraft Spruce

To be honest, I freaking love ACS... Even though I actually live inside the People's Republic of Kalifornia and have to pay the sales tax...

another comm no TSO question (sorry)

I've seen many icom non-TSO radios go into many TCd aircraft, work great, sound great, last long time...

    Low compressions on 0-300D

Pretty much been said already, but follow the CMI guidance on allowable leakage. Continental service bulletin SB03-3 is a great place to start... Many a cylinder has been pulled out of service prematurely using other guidance, but this SB is a pretty common sense approach.

    New Basic Com 2 Options?

Some of the best sounding radios I've installed were the ICOM aviation radios... Might be something to do with the fact they are made by a company that specializes in radios...

    Cessna 210 gear door problems

Press the plungers on all the switches and listen for the audible "click" --no click can indicate a bad switch. Where are you installing the jumper to bypass the switch? The wiring in the NLG wheel well is a known weakness in the Cessna SE retracts that I've worked on. I recently replaced all...

Advice needed from those who have installed an engine analyzer

Use the EI overlap connectors, they keep the connection solid for years! Additionally, no spiral wrap or cheap wire loom, it just ends up attracting dirt and grease and if you ever need to do follow on maintenance you'll end up taking a pair of scissors to it and removing all of it. I pretty...

Long time in annual... is this normal?

Of course, I just finished up my own annual inspection on our new (to us) C-210B and that took nearly 4 months. But, I pretty much only worked on it during the weekends, and I wrote up 126 separate maintenance items. Thankfully, it's back in the air now, and I've whittled that list down to 11...

Long time in annual... is this normal?

I can remember an airport in CO that required that if I was doing annuals or work on planes in my hangar that they wanted a $200 fee per month that I was working on someone else's plane. The fix? I had the owner of any plane I was wrenching on lease me their plane for the length of time it...

    Pondering a new Plane Purchase

We bought a C210 a few months ago, and I'm super glad I did... The early 4-seat ones are excellent blends of speed, utility, and interior space. No wonder the 182RG commands such a premium price...
