Keep hand on the throttle during takeoff??

I had a BFR the other day and didn't catch the carb heat on the go around of a simulated forced landing... The sign that I'm an idiot tends to be slower than expected climb performance ;-)

    Magnetic north point moving fast

Probably worth noting: The WAAS satellites are actually geostationary, but they're a bit special and not part of the GPS constellation. WAAS coverage is limited to a much smaller area, however.

What Do I Need Beyond ForeFlight?

I don't know if you play with any flight simulators, but you can actually feed Garmin Pilot and Foreflight from Prepar3d and X-Plane. By doing that, you can play with the enroute functionalities (not just the pre-flight) and get familiar before jumping in the airplane and trying to learn it...

Keep hand on the throttle during takeoff??

Exactly. That or just touching the face of the throttle to hold it in place (if that's not what you were describing).

Oh no I did it again

Wow! 792 full-fuel useful still makes for a decent 2-4 person airplane (depending on how well fed we are) on a long haul.

What happens if you fly a drone in a moving elevator?

Fantastic idea. To make it even better (although it won't solve the friction issue), make it a neutral buoyancy ball.

When are you obligated to go to your filed alternate

Would it make much of a difference to a controller? I didn't think anything on your strip or on the screen would show them your filed alternate anyhow. And even then, it's not like you file a route to the alternate... so wouldn't you be forced to deviate from "filed" if /A and diverting...

    Frozen throttle cable

I don't even have a vernier mixture in my airplane... The last time I flew an airplane with vernier mixture, I had to think about it before pushing the mixture in. That being said, I wish I had vernier mixture. I should get that swapped one day.

Oh no I did it again

I want one! What's the useful load actually look like for a Lance? I've never really looked at them before. How's it compare to the other similar 6-seat players?

2019 PoA site operations fundraiser - help keep PoA running (and free!)

Not so bad, then. Have you actually seen any value in GuardDuty? We've been fighting among ourselves about the value (or lack thereof) of trying to shim a traditional IPS in to the AWS network model, and GuardDuty would seem to provide some of that function, even though we can't use our own...

What happens if you fly a drone in a moving elevator?

It's tough to articulate. It'd be much easier to visualize. Anybody have an elevator we can smoke cigars in? The air is important, but it's not fixed relative to the elevator like it sounds like some folks here are expecting. Three things happen are going to happen: Air flows in, air flows...

2019 PoA site operations fundraiser - help keep PoA running (and free!)

Holy cow. What, is it just EC2+RDS running the site? Not the most cost effective way to use AWS ;-)

How my day is going so far....

I'll pay a couple of extra bucks if somebody else is shopping for me. On top of the price of the product, I have to pay the time of the added value (the shopper). That being said, I'm cheap when it comes to some things like that, and I don't think I get enough value out of somebody choosing...

How my day is going so far....

I do wish that self-checkout would give me a small discount for the labor saved... but nobody will do that, of course.

Windows 7 password recovery - possible?

Good FDE makes any machine nearly bulletproof once you turn it off... by design :-)

Must Safety Pilot Have Complex Endorsement?

I have no professional aspirations, so I didn't even think about using it for TT.

    Major rant happening here..... beware!

While $800/mo to park a trailer or some expensive rent sounds like a crappy deal, if they're the only options you immediately have, you may be stuck with something like that. Does the trailer park have any lease obligations, or can you do it month to month? If so, it's at least flexible and...

For Sale Will trade new bathroom for your aircraft

One day I want to just install a relief tube. Less mess and fuss... and no need to worry about the cap coming off.

Must Safety Pilot Have Complex Endorsement?

A bit of a tangent... but has anybody here actually bothered to log SIC in that case? I just don't see the value in putting it in my logbook unless it was something cool and unusual that I would want to document for the purposes of storytelling.
