You're missing the point. Airspeed is a proxy for RPM and engine power, and as an added bonus, a direct indicator of pitot/static health. So the check for airspeed and oil pressure kills all the birds with 2 stones and lets you, oh, keep your eyes outside quicker.

I saw this unit at Sun n Fun last year with my very own eyes...it DOES have air data inputs (static and ram air)

I do use VORs...it's fun to turn the OBS and impress my passengers with the dancing needles...makes me look like a real pilot.

Speaking of auto shut offs, what's the deal with most FBOs fuel pumps auto shutoff feature???? They never work!!!! I ALWAYS end up spilling 2 or 3 gallons all over my wings because the darned thing doesn't stop by itself !!
