I'm a Rusty Cessna 152/182 (open to low wing) Pilot getting back into flying after 30 years of inactivity do to a medical issue, and I'm looking for an independent Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) to help me knock the rust off and get proficient again. I'm currently working with an AME for a Special Issuance medical, but in the meantime, I'd like to start talking with some CFI's who are excited to provide an accelerated Rusty Pilot training curriculum; Basic ground school refresher, flight planning, weather, flight maneuvers, tower work, cross county readiness, check ride ready, Electronic Flight Bag (Fore Flight), glass pannel if available, etc.

Ideally, I'm looking for someone with solid experience and a passion for teaching, not just building hours for their commercial rating. I'm particularly interested in incorporating modern technology like ForeFlight into my training and glass panels. Ideal airport, KUES, KMWC, KRVY, KHXF, 02C

If you're an experienced CFI who's excited to help a rusty pilot get back in the left seat with your knowledge of flying, it would be great to hear from you.

Please reach out to me Anthony Waite at waitewi@gmail.com or 262-510-6435.

Thanks,

Anthony Waite
Ps. I do have gray hair now.

I am too far away but otherwise qualified. (All CFIs have a commercial rating, but many are building hours for either business or airline jobs.)
Wouldn't be POA without picking nits. Beat me to it.

Op, welcome! All my connections are a little too far so of no help.

Hey Anthony,

I know quite a few good independent CFIs around here, but for the most part if you want to fly with an independent CFI you need to bring your own plane.

What are you planning to do to keep flying once you get current? Buy a plane, join a club or partnership, or just rent? That might inform my recommendation(s).

Given your list of airports you must live fairly close to me. I'm about 25 minutes from each of them except KRYV. If you want to get together and go flying sometime I'm based at UES, PM me.

Hi Kent, thanks for your reply. I am working with an AME for a Special Issuance Medical (next meeting 3/18/25). Once that gets some traction, I will continue a conversation with Wisconsin Fox River Flyers (Flying Club) at KUES, posibly buy a plane or buy into one with a freind, but until I recive
the Special Issuance, I plan to rent. Anthony Waite 262-510-6435, waitewi@gmail.com

As long as we’re picking nits.. ;)

For the OP’s purposes, Gilbert is probably correct, but a CFI with a Sport Pilot rating is not required to have a commercial.

Hi Kent, thank you for your kind offer to give me a ride sometime. I'd really enjoy meeting you and taking you up on that. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have direct messaging (PM) access on this site. Perhaps it's a feature of a paid version? If you're ever looking for someone to ride with, please feel free to text or call me at 262-510-6435. Anthony Waite
