How can I remove my special issuance first class medical?

Long story short, before I pursued my ppl I went to a cardiologist for heart palpitations I was having sporadically for a couple months as a precaution. I ran through numerous tests and everything came back normal. Too much caffeine. Doctor even told me I was fine. However, after visiting an AME and obtaining my cardiologist's records, he surprisingly diagnosed me with angina pectoris.

After doing another EKG and everything was clear, I asked the doctor why he put that diagnosis despite my records showing the contrary. He indicated it was a typo and even added that in my records.

I was still issued a SI first class medical. I didn't think anything much of it. I've been pursuing my PPL since then for months now but I'm beginning to wonder if I should even bother opening up a can of worms. Aren't SI medicals issued with less time than a regular first class? I wasn't given any guidance when I should follow-up with my AME. Should I even contact an attorney to get this resolved or just leave it be?

Yes, they are only good for one year. That's to enforce your sending in the required annual cardiology evaluation.
FAA's view is that "well it could be caffeine but no caffeine level was had". We'd better watch and make sure.

And no an attorney cannot get you an upgraded clearance.

So then how long will it stay as a special issuance if I keep showing records year after year that nothing is wrong or is it permanent?

Why would you get a 1st Class medical when you're pursuing the ppl?

+1, I do think Basic Med is the move if you're not trying to fly professionally.
  • Will I ever fly an aircraft with more than 6 seats (including the pilot)?
  • Will I ever fly an aircraft that weighs more than 6,000 lbs max takeoff weight?
  • Will I ever need to fly above 18,000 feet?
  • Will I ever need to fly faster than 250 knots indicated airspeed?
  • Will I ever need to fly for hire?
  • Will I ever need to fly outside of the US?

If the answer is no to all of the above, I'd let your first class lapse and just through BM.
