He gave up drinking to win a bet in 1964. "Fellow made me a $10 bet I couldn't quit, and I haven't had a drink since. At the time I needed the $10," Brooks said.

Probably. Maybe. I lived in the Rochester area for six and a half years and never made it to Schenectady. Other than business trips to New York City and Albany, a few events at Syracuse University, I spent all my vacation time going home to Wisconsin.
